ABS Light

New Member
Got the Vee back on the road yesterday.

Everything good apart from I have the ABS light on permanently. The discs were quite rusty so I am thinking a sensor/ring could just be dirty or need replacing.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Josh

Possibly a reluctor ring - fairly common. Make sure clean and free of any cracks.

In my case it was water ingress in the ABS module, not repairable using the usual ECU type repair guys. I needed replacement at much ££££, luckily found one for sale on LeBonCoin at a somewhat sensible price.

Hey Ben, how are you?

Uch, hope it's the first thing you said rather than the later, then. Where is the ABS module situated, out of interest?

Under the luggage tray.

If you can reset the warning light, then if it comes straight back on immediately (without moving the car) then it’s something electronic.

If it doesn’t come on, but then comes on when you’ve moved some distance then it’s most likely reluctor rings.

That seems the easiest way to narrow down the diagnosis.

If the light is on and stays on when you start the car, never goes off, it's not the targets. You have a sensor down or another electrical issue.

Usually if the targets are bad the light goes off when started and comes back on when driving once the system detects anomalies in the readings.

Looks like it's a faulty ABS sensor. Annoying how the ABS module can't be read by any OBD2 reader.

I looked into this issue too. Here are the part numbers if the issue is the ABS sensors, two are the same while the others are different lengths. Bosch is the OEM therefore the same product as Renault except it might be missing the diamond logo if at all. Although such sensors should be easy to replace, unfortunately it is common here for the sensor to be firmly stuck in the hub and pulling it leads to it breaking off yet leaving the sensor still in the hub. You should factor in time needed in removing each hub in order to drill out the sensor from the other side.

Front NS 7700411745 (Bosch 0265006384)
Front OS 7700411746 (Bosch 0265006385)
Rear NS 7700411745 (Bosch 0265006384)
Rear OS 7700411747 (Bosch 0265006383)

Really appreciate this, thank you!

I had already done some investigation work and indeed managed to find the Bosch 0265006384 for 16 quid off eBay, was very happy! It's my N/S/R that needs replacing. It seems to be the same part used for most of the Mk2 Clios.

Will have to pay the garage to do the work but I think they wanted about £90 for the actual part, so finding it myself should have definitely helped.

Yes, they said the sensor will be stuck in the hub and they will have to break it out. What do you think is a fair amount of time to be charged to do it? Half an hour? One hour?

on my ph1 vee the rear sensors are on a crappy little bracket and they were stuck in there badly. but you can't get the bracket off with out removing the sensor first. so i bent the abs bracket out of the way so i could unbolt the bracket and work on it on the bench. I had to drill the head off the bolt holding the abs sensor in as it rounded then had to wrestle the sensor out, after all that was done i tapped the bracket back square and flat with a bodywork hammer ready to be refitted after i have finished repainting everything. If they can do all of that in 2 hours i think your on a winner, it really is a pain in the arse job.

As said the rear ABS sensors are on brackets that are bolted (2 bolts) down to the caliper bracket. The sensor itself is held in position by a small torx screw and this can be a nightmare. I was lucky mine came out relatively easy after a soak in wd40. I replaced the troublesome torx screws with a 10mm headed bolt and put plenty of copper slip on the bolt base.

I bought an rear OS with the correct part number and it is totally different. Any ideas?

What part number is found on the old sensor?
Bosch also prints the Renault part number on the sensor. Does the sensor you received have both the Bosch and the Renault part numbers?

I noticed printed on the packaging "Made in Romania". Not sure if you found it on ebay. In contrast the photo from jps and the Bosch parts I have are made in Germany. Part numbers should be the same regardless of the country of origin. You need to see if you can return it?
