ABS light...

My ABS light come on tonight on the way to work, so will have 12hours of wondering what it could be ( Thats not going to do my head in much ), anyone else had a problem or issues on there MK1.

The only other time i had an issue was in the snow, will have to have it apart over the weekend.

Is there a parts drawing available james?

I don't think there's a parts drawing, there may be something in the Knowledge Base manuals. http://v6clio.net/manuals/chassis.pdf section 38

fuse? Faulty counter ring/sensor? Try getting it to cut in, and see what happens...

Tried braking hard and the wheels never locked up so have a feeling could be sensor or ring problem, i do remember on the motorway hearing something going under the car though.

Well, coming home off nights this morning and there was no ABS light on, did total of 30 miles on the motorway so would have thought it'd come on with braking etc.

Still going to have all the wheels off though and have a good look, must have been what ever went under the car.

May have been some crap stuck between counter and sensor? hope you get it fixed, sounds like something simple.

Reading previous posts on the subject, gunk between counter and sensor has been the cause. LINK

Had the wheels off today and had a good clean of sensors and counter rings etc, if that doesnt work its going to be a sensor going down.

Does anyone have part numbers and prices for front and rear sensors?

Right, over the weekend i changed the NSF ABS sensor (Gives speedo signal etc ) and i'm still get the ABS light coming on. This morning i drove 25 miles to work with no problems then pulled away from a set of traffic lights and on it came.

Even when the car's not moving, ABS light is on and cars idleing the speedo starts jumping about, got in the car tonight to come home and everything was fine, no lights, jumping speedo etc then on it came half way from home.

This is starting to get to me, any ideas?

Not simply the wires under the drivers seat common fault is it?

Not sure if that showed an ABS light.

I have this issue on my 172 cup and its just the wires under the seat that need 'twiddling' with and they turn off then .Servo light and another on is on at the moment ont he dash. Go off occasionally so i tend to ignore it.

Have checked those, seems a strange one as the road isn't bumpy when the ABS light comes on.

had one with a bad connector going to the abs valve block, this gave the speedo a signal that it was doing about 80mph, miles clocking away merrily whilst stood still, never really found the fault but a liberal spray of wd40 around the connectors stopped it, the only thing you can do is get a live data scan of the abs system whilst its playing up, this should point you in the direction of the fault, would guess water has someting to do with it though!

thats the one, can't guarrantee anyting though but it does get wet.

Will disconnect the battery tomorrow night when i get home from work and unplug it and have a look to see if anything is corroded.

But that does sound like what mine is doing with the speedo.
