ABS [Anti-lock braking system] question

(sometimes I can't work with the search button. If I fill in ABS it gives no results... very strange as there are a few topics..)

Last week my ABS light came on (phase 1). After investigation of the sensors/rings/connectors the result is that the ABS computer is faulty. The connectors on the computer give the correct voltage and so on. I took it to two different electronics expert which state the same. Control /processor module on the print card is faulty.

The Bosch 5.3 ABS computer is very common in the automotive world. Audi/BMW/Saab uses it too. The layout and connectors are all the same except the processor module with the car specifics I think.

I gave the Renault dealer a ring and they want £ 1355,93 GBP [€ 1693,12] for it nowadays :tumble:

Somebody has any knowledge if this exact type is used in another car? The Renault Scenic comes close but it doesn't work :) I tried.
Is a ABS unit from a phase 2 possible?

Bosch 0 273 004 586 or Renault number: 60 20 013 028

I could look up the part for various other Renaults if you give me a model type. ie Espace Model J636 etc

It would take months to look up every model and type on the system to find a car with the same part (if there is any)

Thanks for that option James :approve: :approve:

I found out @ Bosch that these can only be deliverd through a Renault dealer.

Is that this guy Simon?

But I'm not sure if a phase 2 computer would work? Anybody? I can borrow one here but it is a 1.4K gamble :tumble:

Don't think they are interchangeable with a random car. The program on the chip is unique to the model as every car has different ABS regulation and EBD control parameters. Furthermore our vee has a rather unique 3 channel Layout (might be indicated by the missing row of two solenoids?) which I haven't seen in any common car so far. I'm not sure about the difference between ph1 and ph2 but I'd say if the connectors match it shouldn't break when connected to the wrong car. If it works, even better. If it looks the same from the outside, I expect there to be only minor differences in the inside.

If you have Dialogys, there is a find part function which tells you just that. But I'm pretty sure it says Clio v6 only for the reasons above.

PS: With the ABS capability you also loose the EBD function which should cause the car to rear overbrake by design, so pay attention when braking midcorner. This is not confirmed by me but sounds reasonable.

Thanks for all this info Jonas :approve: :salut: :salut:

So it is specific phase 1. Will maybe try the MK2 computer and continue searching for a replacement.

Just use it for some cruising around the island here so no heavy braking midcorner expected :race: :) but good to know.
