.....if this guy succeeds in his quest! This Notorious Hacker Built A Self-Driving Car In His Garage
Whether or not he gets there, and everything as shown in the video is to be believed, this chap's effort is commendable, even as a pure technical exercise. Car manufacturers, and Google, may wonder why on earth their R&D departments have spent millions of dollars in developing this technology.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI), in this case for adaptive learning, is a genius idea, which I have not seen used before in the automotive world. The notion of AI, coupled with artificial neural networks, has been around for years, but with advances in technology such ideas that were either a figment of one's imagination or consigned to research projects, when I was studying the subject at university in the 90's, are now beginning to see the light of day. Back then lack of suitable technology (advanced and fast enough processors), and small enough to package, was what held back those ideas from being implemented.
Whatever happens, hope the advances in AI doesn't get out of hand as the likes of Elon Musk and Bill Gates predict, discussed in this article:
Artificial intelligence: Should we be as terrified as Elon Musk and Bill Gates?
