A Noise??

Whilst on a private road..... ahem, around 125 mph I hear a noise and its loud, it is possibly wind through the wipers and tried them whilst on the move but was'nt sure. Its a sort of drone almost bearing like but vanishes the second you slow down below 120?
I am slightly concerned? should I be? :?

does it do it regulary at those speeds or was it a one off???

my advice would be to take the car to the dealer and if its a regular thing, take him out in the car and try to make it do it..

however..if its a graunching noise..i think it just go slow :)

It only does it at extreme speed so taking the dealer mechanic out to hear it is not really an option, the noise has happened twice at exactyly the same speed 125/130 ish hoping its wind noise so wondered if anyone else had experienced it?

Thats a good question? I'll have to give it a whirl as the noise made me think hmmmm I'll slow down before it turns into a bang, as we all know major failures over a ton end in tears or splats!! Still that said I'll give it a go arf!!
I take it you have a similar noise or are trying to kill me.

Oh and I did try operating the wipers and tried to convince myself that the noise changed its note but can't be sure, sorry just read the reply.

Well I am convinced now that the noise is the from the wipers, it starts at around 125 and they scream away til past 140, however fast do these things go?!! it certainly was still pulling hard... awesome

Does you wiper have a spoiler built into it? My 182 did and it whistled above 80...

I too get that whistle around 90 but there are no spoilers on the blades at all, I'll mebbe try and source some and give it a try, bosch do a lot of spoilered blades. Did the original renault blades for the car come with spoilers?

My post wasn't very clear, I was saying the spoiler one increased wind noise dramatically. Unless your wipers don't work at high speed, I'd avoid them.

The blades on mine have no spoilers but the noise that comes from them sounds like someones playing a kazoo, just been out in it now and the noise is deffo the wipers it momentarily stops when the wipers are mid stroke across the screen but as I don't cruise at this speed it does'nt matter, might try some new blades though.
Ta for the help, great place this eh!!

See an earlier post on noise I posted ages ago. Same problem. I no longer worry! No lights, no problems no consequences.....although I was worried at the time.

On a recent trip back from Le Mans on a private road in France (!!!!) 120 it is like something has shorted in the radio .......a high pitched shrill, by 130 it's all over and by 150 you are glad you have 30kg of tent in the front boot compartment as you can't worry too much about anything else......then the Porsche Turbo overtakes you!!!! Although by this time he has respect :-)

I had this with mine. It kicked in around 130 and then went at about 140 but by that time the car felt pretty light and with a Lotus Carlton up my arse, I had more important things to worry about..

Have the answer, your windshield is glued to low, they changed mine and placed on right place no more noise at 200 km/h,wich is about to be same as your 120/130 m/p-h.
Easy to check by a Renault dealer, small plastic parts are used to give correct positionning of windshield, they are left after mounting.
If no more under warranty, windshield can be re-used after de-gluing (excuse my french...)Renault had a special tool to cut glue and re-use windshield.
In fact a lot of Clio from any model has got this problem, but just a few are driven that fast... [smilie=cool.gif]

Interesting, as I had a similar problem with my 5turbo back in the day and the dealer removed and refitted the screen and the problem was gone.

I worked in the auto glass trade for ten years.....
They won't guarantee getting it out in one piece...
Suggest they put rubber blocks on the inside of the bond line to give the screen 'height'.
Make sure they have a Heat Reflective screen at the ready, just in case !!!
