So looking through gumtree I seen a Laguna 2 for £325. MOT'd no tax, rattles at idle, exhaust problems etc. Then looked where it is, about 5 doors up. Its a guy I know who usually scraps cars. This would have been scrapped if it never sold.
Its got no sunroof (bonus) its the model down from our one so only cloth (rubbish) but 16 inch rims (bonus) but same engine and a/c etc.
I wander down and the guy who I know said "I know you're here about the laguna ain't you" obviously I replied. Anyway blah blah get it for £280 and get it to the drive.
Get it back an assess things.
Rattle at idle dephaser pulley
Exhaust split in 2 at the weld on the cat
abs light on apparently rear left abs circuit according to my scanner
loads of codes which I clear and few come back
live data shows the lambda is constantly lean which explains the fuel smell and dodgy wiring on lambda sensor
Brake pipes need done
service needs done
needs tyres soon
pipe from charcoal solenoid to manifold is damaged
2 key cards but one has the usual rattle of a lose switch
So not to bad but not great but at less than 300 quid its throw away money anyway.
So far I have bought, air filter, oil filter, oil, spark plugs, water pump, cambelt kit, dephaser pulley and a thermostat. Parts so far run to just over 300 alone.
Anyway first night, the alloy is in the boot

Previous owners poor repair of snapped exhaust

The car was filthy inside and out, so I set about cleaning it out a bit, this is the spare wheel well, it was hoovered out and then polished up and looks great

Passenger side vent damage

Sorted, doesn't sit flush though

I forgot to mention the dinged sill, it came out a bit with a good hit underneath

Battery pulled out for a good charge

I pulled the dodgy band off saw the damage and braced it until I could sort the split out

A week or so later I pulled out the welder, its not pretty as its welding above you, no gas as its outside and I have no mask so it was aim close eyes and pull trigger lol

you can see the crack, it pulled it closed nicely.

Done all the way round, strong enough for me to pull myself up on it and no paste needed, made a bi difference much quieter

I also repaired the key card, cut it open found the loose switch and also noticed a loose diode on the top right, may have been me cutting it open right enough

all sorted and working perfectly

More to come as work progresses.
