Last night after visiting the World Series Renault I popped over to a mates place.
Smashing roads around the area so really enjoyed working the Renault even with noisy bearings.
Anyway , I digress.
exchange pleasantries and got down to the nitty gritty of cars.
e30 M3
There is no denying I like the e30 m3 even though the superior 21t is faster and reportedly better handling .. Razz
The car was pristine. It really is a minter. Fully race prepped with a lumpy idle , and a growl. Scorpion exhaust gives it a full burble. I mentioned that it might be worth chopping out the two centre boxes for added performance.
The car just looks immaculate , I scowered the car with the same vigour that you might find a crack addict scouring there purse for twenties , and I couldn't spy a single bit of rot. Top or underside.
Didn't get a ride out in it , but even so , It was a good spectacle. It was interesting to compare the design aspects between the 21t and the e30. Little things like addon rear wings and angles everywhere.
Audi/Elise Hybrid.
In the same way that a diamond encrusted rolex watch shouts bling , this car is shouting EXTREME PERFORMANCE !
I had a walk around the thing , massive sticky tyres , huge panel gaps , flimsy bodywork.
The exhaust sums up the car. Neither polished , or pretty , but 100% functional. Form following function and nothing else.
David started the engine. Rough idle. Then smooth. Loud , but controlled. I popped my head into the cockpit , first time looking into one for me. - Its smaller than I expected for some reason , whilst not being claustrophobic if that makes sense
I was invited for a little trip round the block to which i replied with a rather noob question " how does one get in ? " The method was described and then I had the joy of the harness. It was AndyProof and defeated me. So , I could not get in easily and I couldn't get the harness done.
After David sorted me out ( Thanks Dad ! ) we pootled off down the road with the vital fluids warm
Next Impressions. Warm in the cockpit , my hips dont fit into the buckets and there is this thing behind me that's warm. Its called the engine ..
David gentle accelerated , and it was enough to say this means business. Being the 80s turbo lover that I am , I had to look at Davids feet and note the turbo lag. There is some , but nothing worth worrying about. Literally a press and then the thump. Quite literally as fast as you just read that.
Next straight was a full fat big bang acceleration. First the noise assaults you then the physics bending acceleration , I really have never been in anything as savage at pulling the horizon towards you. It was simply mind bending. The noise is a massive part of the experience and it defiantly leaves your ears ringing.
Next was a bend.
kid like expressions are needed for the grip level OMG 1!!11eleventy!1!! FTW and Snot and blanket spring to mind. No squirm , no slide , just flat simple cornering like its on rails. Only when your seriously pressing on does it slide ..
I had to prize my face off the plastic windows several times.
I just couldn't get over the sheer speed that this thing picks up and carries speed. Weapon is the accurate phrase for what it is. Point it at the horizon , its follows the black stuff like a low flying cruise missile.
It redefines what an overtaking space is. See a gap , push loud pedel , steer and gone.
We were being a bunch of hard charging griffin lovers ( Vauxhall bods ) gap , dispatched , rear view mirror , cars gone. It really is that quick.
Roundabouts are simply play things , just like when you were a child on the playground version. Jump on , get on it , spin round it on off. Due to the way the car is sprung and damped , there is minimal body roll - well minimal might be describing to much movement. Flat , and firm is probably more accurate.
There are a couple of downside to it - Its not the kind of car you would enjoy taking to work , or the missus would be impressed with - however what it is a grade I track day weapon. Fast is not a suitable enough word. Monstrous performance doesn't do it justice. If there is one thing you do in your life , drop David a pm and ask him for a go in his car. It has changed my perception of fast. Its stretched what I can say is quick , it has told me how a performance car goes around bends.
I think it took about 20 mins for my retinas to reattach , and the ear ringing didn't go for considerably longer...
