197 Steering wheel

My mechanic has had trouble fitting the 197 wheel from RPD. He says the power steering doesn't work since connecting. Is it a straight forward swop? Is he doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance

I would think someone like James can answer this but I thought it was an easy swop. Maybe it should be added to the knoledge base.

Just a thought

Sounds like you will have it too make up the appropriate washers needed to bring the wheel away from the column spline. Likely your power steering isn't actually the issue, more like the wheel is so tight that it feels like manual steering.

Hi Kevin, as James said above. Your new 197 wheel will be rubbing the plastic cowling and give the impression of faulty power steering by binding against each other. My solution was to place a washer / packer between wheel and base plate of the splines just to give a little clearance and all been fine since. IIRC you will only need 1 or 2mm packer it's that close :approve:
Have you got the CC & airbag sorted?
Give us a shout if you need any more info ;)

You need to increase the clearance between back of wheel and plastic cowling. So the easiest way for me was to put a washer / spacer in no need to cut or trim anything that way ;-)

Is it still possible to get a new standard steering wheel for the phase 2?

Nigel.

I had a quote from Renault last year of £550 - not including the airbag. Many thanks to Russo for sending me out some replacement thumb grips :)

Hi guys

To be honest the best price I can do on the Phase 2 steering wheel would be around £498 Inc Vat

Retails at just over £550 Inc Vat

Have tried speaking to Renault UK about V6 prices with no luck :(
