Bit of a strange one to put up for sale as it wont be everyones cup of tea but an easy way to a few more hp than the 172 engine makes.
I have built up from a 90k 197 engine, a drop in swap for a Clio 172 i no longer have so really its just sat in the garage not doing much. I purchased a running 90k clio 197 engine that was removed to make way for a 225 engine swap. The oil came out clean with no particulates in it and rotates freely by hand. My idea was to get this in a Clio with minimal fuss and fabrication. No chassis chopping no custom driveshafts no standalone ecu, it took a fair bit of research!
So on the 197 block you can see where they have added material for the bigger 6 speed gearbox, strangely looking at it the material is still there from the previous revision to mate up to a 5 speed box. So i added a 172 sump to align a gearbox and then marked through so i could drill and tap the block to accept the gearbox fully. I then added a 172 flywheel and brand new clutch to make sure everything lined up nicely, it did so win there. Next i spoke with chris at efi parts about running it all on the stock ecu and came up with a value to retime the cams to to make it work with the 172 ecu once remapped. This was done along with a new cambelt and tensioner kit. next up was modifying the 172 cambelt cover to clear the belt so that the drivers side mount could be used. Basically what i have is ready to drop in a Clio bar missing a few exhaust manifold bolts, an inlet manifold gasket and inlet bolts. 182 Manifold will be included along with a spare jc5 130 gearbox.
List of things needed to fit this in a Clio
Fitting of exhaust manifold bolts and exhaust manifold
Fit inlet manifold gasket and bolts
bracket for coil pack
the engine has no provision for pas so will need epas or manual rack
the engine was to be fitted and ran on 172 injectors and with dephaser disconnected until mapping, where the 197 injectors would be fitted and dephaser connected up electronically.
It will fit up with the stock mounts and wiring using the Clio 172 loom though there might be a few connectors that might need a rewire
Please any questions ask away, i will answer as best i can, you can always fire an email to chris at efi parts to confirm it can be mapped up and done, but do be aware it will need mapping after fitting though light throttle driving will be possible to get you there if needed.
Engine, gearbox and 182 exhaust manifold are all located in Gloucester less than 5 min from the M5. Its hard one to price as it owes me a bit more than im putting it up for sale for. Im asking for £450 ono
