Stupid question but is this supposed to seal the bearing from road crap and the grease washing out?

Its a replacement for the oem seal if yours is worn.

Can confirm I fitted these from this supplier in January up here in wet and salty Scotland. Done about 6k miles since and no issues to report.

I bought them based on the dimensions and they worked out fine.
