04 Phase2 Illiad....£11,200

OK, so starting bid but will be interesting to see what this ends up selling for at auction.

Whatever you say about eBay, it's a really good barometer of what a car is really worth - If it looked like the final bid was going to be too low, there are enough people out there who will see its bargain potential and try to buy it, so cars always tend to find their true value.

Don't be tempted to have a cheeky bid though to try and force the price up - Be more fun to see where it goes naturally....If of course the seller lets the auction run its course to the end.

Its got 66k on the clock, there are lower priced mark 2s with less miles for sale at the moment, probably wont even get a bid.

Actually you have a point. There's a similar mileage phase 2 in Scotland for £10,750 that's been on for 3 weeks without a sale, 1 for 11K (featured elsewhere in this section) and a black car with 28k miles for £13 odd which hasn't sold yet on Pistonheads.

So how much lower do these already cheap looking cars have to be to make them sell???

Starting to make even mine look expensive!

That black one was selling for 10k then he took it off for a few weeks, serviced and cam belt change and bumped the price up to 12 or 13. Reduced again now. When I was trying to find a vee it seemed like the standard vees sold faster, could also be due to his terrible advert I suppose

the black one (no 175) has had a pretty major smack in the past which did 10ks worth of damage, the past owner posted about it here:

high mileage and damaged cars just dont command the same premium as mint examples.

I seem to be sounding contrary all the time just recently. I don't mean to!

I agree that if a car has been recorded as previously written-off by an insurance company and then repaired that traditionally you would expect to pay 20 to 30% less than market value.....Although there is no reason for this to be the case. If the car's been repaired professionally under the guidance of a good insurance company it's could even be better than when it rolled off a factory production line.....It's all in the heads of potential buyers and those looking for anything to reduce the price and get a good deal for themselves.

HOWEVER, the black ME04 TOY is HPI clear and has never been recorded as written-off. Presumably Alex managed to get the insurer's to settle directly with him for an agreed sum and he arranged the repairs.

I think it's also fair to assume that the number of people who have seen that ad on Pistonheads who have also known from this site that the car has had a rear end smack is extremely small, so I don't think it would have that much effect on the car's saleability.

Most cars have had a knock at some point or another to a greater or a lesser extent and the only thing to be concerned over is the quality of the repair.

So unless those who have been to see the car have found the car to be in visibly poor condition or lacking ANY service history whatsoever, it seems that you can't sell a low mileage V6 in black for £11,495...at least this week anyway. [smilie=doubt.gif] [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

I'd say any Vee that's got "previous history" will be far more difficult to sell than a nice straight example whatever the price  and you simply cannot compare it price wise to an excellent undamaged example 8)

Phill

I don't disagree Phil - But there is no accident history recorded against the black car outside of this website (which only a very few potential buyers will see), so unless potential buyers are being told by the seller that it has been previously smacked (unlikely given that it's changed hands since), or they can detect that the car has been repaired, it's previous accident isn't what is affecting its saleability at £11,499.

I'm trying to be realistic as it's quite interesting to see what's REALLY happening with prices at the moment rather than discussing what we'd LIKE to be happening with prices ;)

Simon, you are obsessed with prices!

You have a vee? You're not planning on selling? Just go for a drive dude :race:

iain I spent 30 mins today trying to figure out what you have said to Simon but I couldn't find a polite way to say it so I gave up and didn't type anything!

Thanks for helping pal!

You certainly don't have to agree with what others write, but I don't think there's any reason to interfere with their writing it in the first place.

All I have done is counterbalanced all the nonsense (in my humble opinion naturally) that's been written in the last couple of weeks in this and other threads about inflated ideas of values and trying to distort the market to attempt (and fail) to artificially increase prices.

Feel free to ignore it if you choose to.

Simon, not sure if this was for my benefit following my somewhat flippant (and if any offence taken, I apologise - none meant) post above, or the forum in general, but I just do not get your obsession with prices?! Enjoy the car mate, I know I do! Seriously, I do look forward to your first post about a spectacular drive you have enjoyed in the vee, that I will enjoy reading far more than another thread on prices.

Peace, out. :)

you bought another vee mr T??

I bought #294 back! I knew as soon as I sold it I had made a big mistake and was fortunate enough to be able to get her back 6-months later :approve: Hope to see you back in a vee sometime Del as I recall you were a big fan during your stint in one :)

Sorry to drag this off topic. Back to prices... [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
