Say hello to BOB!

I’ll have a look for some rings, be later in the week, I’ve got plenty of thrust washers, not sure if type 800 lump are still copper base seals on liners, or if they went paper? I’ve got loads of liners of varying condition, odds and sods of mains etc.
Get a need list and I’ll see what I can send your way

That would be amazing, thank you

On the engine front though we are staring to make some progress.

checking things over I found that the crank from the r6 engine has been reground to .5mm oversize, I’m not overly keen on these so have cleaned up the r4 crank using 3000grit and a shoelace. The block liners and pistons are all from that engine also. Only thing I will check is if the cams are different, the r6 had a touch more power I believe with a whopping 38bhp or similar vs the r4s 30bhp. I have a spare oil scraper ring winging its way to me in the post to replace the damaged one (cheers @Turbell) and am now at the point of deciding if I should order up a full set of shells or just to clean them up and send it (super cheap I know but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve sent an old Renault engine on second hand shells…)

excuse the mess, very small garage with lots of parts now in it

It’ll be fine and dandy, if crank and bearings look something like, no big grooves, bearings not through to backing, 20/50 mineral in it, be reet.

New shells, for the cost why wouldnt you?

For fun dave :person_shrugging:

That and I havent found any one supplying new bearings yet, NOS on ebay but not much more at the moment.

I might be able to cobble a new set of mains for you, but it’ll be a week at least , as I’m leaving tomorrow for TT, just putting your ring in post…bearings are all Daup, 4cv, R4, R6, Autodoc did list them cheap , but OOS last time I looked, other than that Bretagne Auto were cheapest.

Cheers me dears, ill order some up but can replace in situe if needed (again something ive had to do before lol)

Thanks for the ring and enjoy the TT (y)

Ill have a look at my microfiche set and see if I have any parts slides for a Renault heap of shite 6

Cheers @DaveL485 i bagged some on Ebay. Should be here next week (y) part number for the big ends is 7700530148 which is on the back of the shells

So today was a little bit of a tidy up and sorting through some bits and bobs, lots still to sift through though.

New clutch and cover dug out, bottom end bolts located, 2 oil pumps so I will split them both and pick the best, flywheel removed from the reground crank and cleaned ready for assembly. Big end and main crank bearings found and ordered on eBay (y) Will likely move over to getting the head ready for use and finding the end plates and such for that next (y)

What carb does 6 use?, I only ask because Daup G engine in my 750 uses a 32PBIT , which I’ve converted to manual choke, but they are feckers for warping , end up with an oval throat and I’m about out of decent bodies, current one is holding on to idle cos butterfly has started to stick, so I’m looking for options.

good question, I have 2 different looking carbs in the pile that ill have to take a look at

You’re going to do all of this, to find out it would be easier to nick the deliveroo guy’s electric bike and convertible it using that for parts, it’ll be quicker…

you aren’t wrong

Parts have started to arrive, a little slower than hoped for and I’ve had to chase the full gasket set today. Fingers crossed by next weekend the bulk of it should be here.

Anyway, NOS bearings for the bottom end slapped in and given a coat of graphogen. Flywheel also on with a clean and some loctite for the threads. I have 1 oil scraper to replace on one of the pistons so once that’s here I can finish off the bottom end. Just need to find a couple of plates, a tensioner and the cam chain and I can look at the cam side of things. May get to that tomorrow. Head faces have been cleaned up, tempted to send it off for a skim though it doesnt look bad for flatness.

Thanks for reading

This seller is awesome…

I have to agree, top bloke (y)

Things are coming together now, new timing chain (cheers @Turbell ) and gasket set arrived, which allowed me to button up the bottom end, which is now pretty fresh. timing is super easy with the both pulleys marked and the new chain also having guide marks on to line it all up. Need to get the head dropped off for a light skim and I can then work on getting that fitted along with the gearbox (y)

Head dropped off yesterday for skim, the box mounts starter and such can still go on i think, the head can be fitted in situe so i may just continue and go for engine fitting this weekend :crossed_fingers:
