Here we go with the Meglio.
The 197 has so much potential, but ruined by the shite gearbox and ratio’s and the scarily common mapping issues with the flat spot and horrific cold start kangarooing. This should resolve all of those complaints and save me doing a belt service too!
No date set for the swap yet, but want it to be soon, in and out, job done.

why not just boost the engine already in the car? save a lot of messing round. the 225 engine isn’t the best to begin with.
Much cheapness at a guess.
cheaper to boost it, sell cams for £200 and throw 172/182 cams in and you’re already ahead.
Because the gearbox is absolute shite, and its too much fucking around.
My budget for the conversion is £1400 tops. On target currently.
Box is easy enough to swap over. Would still use the 197/200 engine over the 225.
Got to agree about the standard box though. Don’t know what Renault were thinking, at least you can do synchros on them in aboit half an hour.

Standard to get it up and running and reliable, once thats done i might be tempted to a remap to 250/250 but want to keep it robust and reliable while I lavish a metric fuckton of cash on the 21

I would shove some Deka 630s in it , change the fuel pump and then it will run 280/280 all day long. Standard injectors are poor
