Holey Renault 5.... F7R + ITB's

Ive had the 5 rally car for a few months now and have just been collecting parts for the engine conversion and overhaul, with my VW Caddy nearly road bound its time to make a start to get it ready for FCS 09

After finding out my white 5 shell needed a new inner & outer sill, floor and other bits of rust sorting, I stripped and scrapped it… I started hunting for a new more soild shell. The rally 5 had been on ebay a few times… Ive wanted it since i first laid my eyes on it, read the spec and seen the holes lol… http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d…ksid=p3907.m29

Below is the final build spec of the car, Ive got all the parts. Its just a case of cleaning, painting and putting it all together… Once its built i plan to use it for a few trackdays this year, so i can get used to the car… then who knows what i will do with maybe compete in it (but going by my record, break it for parts and scrap it lol)

i duno why but it look smaller than a normal five. i think its going to look epic with the f7r gerning out the engine bay!

Shrunk in the wash to save weight

This weekend I have been painting my inlet and head with brush on hammerite. I would normally spray them but its far to cold to get good results

Before

After

I also weighed my lighterned flywheel to to see how it compared to my standard flywheel

Standard

Lighterned

nice work mate carnt wait 2 see this on the road

looking good mate..

Awsome another Winston special  I love how you’ve weighed your flywheel lol thats ace!

Cheers folks… just plodding on, deadlines FCS

I bought them scales just to weigh parts lol £7.99 home bargains lol

The splits weigh 4.3kg a piece

Any updates chap?

No big updates :frowning: … hate doing updates with no pics, like laine thread of fail

Ive put the first coat of paint on the thermostat housing and coil pack

Swapped my insurance from my hybrid and Im going to tax it at the start of feb and use it (1.4 campus power lol)… as im sick of having no car on the road

That way it gives me room in the back garden to put up a cover, get some flooring down and get the engine built up on the subframe… that way i can just drop the car over it and bolt it all up

long time no see chap lol, what did you do to your inlet results look amazing! did you clean it up first (and with what?) and what type of hammerite did you use? looks quality far better than spraying it silver like most folk do. let me know man i’m curious lol

Indeed man… we will have to hook up over the coming show season

Inlet…

Cleaned it with gunk and de-greaser
Duct taped up the holes up
Gave it a quick sand with 400 wet & dry
Painted with 3 coats of custom mix Hammerite smooth

The colours a custom mix as hammerite don’t do a dark grey… 70/30 black/silver… Ish… i just mixed it till i was happy with…but i started with more silver so Ive got shit loads left, so painting as much as i can lol

Its not dryed as shinny or dark as in the picture… but im pleased with the results

Thermo housing

Update

It has MOT & Insurance and ive just got to tax it when the cover note comes through… so will be on the road for sunday

Some parts have come through the post

Fuel hose from speed… cheers man

Ph1 19 16V bonnet vent… cheers fatman

GT Tuning Oval bumper vent… cheers again fatman

Once its on the road i can get the exterior looking abit more well… Winston… and crack on behind the scenes with the engine

Also some new seats in the pipe line

Cheers
Winston

schwede man, good progress, may see u at n/w meet

<3 Bryn

If you come coops… you an see the comedy valve the 5 is in its current state lol

Boring stuff again… but all ads to the finished arcticle

ARB before

Painted and poly bushed

nice

Cheers ron 8)

Vinyl sticker front number plate from ebay… saves some weight

I removed the passenger seat as its sold… to make way for the new front seats… coming soon :stuck_out_tongue:

Some well well over due engine fiddling…

I had already given the head a coat of paint… how it looked before

I have already prepped the bottom end for paint.. So out came the black hammerite smooth… gave both sides a first coat, not pretty but better than rust brown

I also gave the head a 3rd coat of paint… fitted my pre painted inlet manifold and thermal inlet gasket

next jobs are… Finish cleaning the gearbox and paint it… fit the flywheel, clutch and gearbox… then i can get it mounted on the subframe

looking good mate, what paint did you use for the inlet manifold, iv got one on the way and wanna do it satin black with my engine plastics and a polished cam cover, but wanna get it right first time, with decent paint

Cheers man… if you look on the last page theres some info

Hammerite spray or paint on is cool to use

Well Ive not done much to the car… as there was no point as there was something new in the pipe line… Things just got interesting

After a 12 hour round trip to bristol yesterday… 3 hours there, 4 hours removing, 2 hours seeing the lord and 3 hours home…

Alpha weber ITB’s from an ex K-tec demo car… lets just say i got them for a good price.. and I was praying no one beat me to the deal lol

Ive got my powder coated parts back from Jordan… Legend (pics soon)

Ive also took the 5 off the road today and the front end stripped and engine ready to take out

Im still in 2 minds whether to get it full resprayed… some days i like orange others not lol
