Wow, have they shot up in price now :)

Thought he might of been but dont know many members on here and who the car belongs too lol

But lovely car though :-)

All looked good on the PH classifieds page until you come across that Vel Satis mixing it with the Vees!

I am sure Origine RS should put the Vee in the spotlight - lining up a magazine feature may be a great thing to do, and would certainly help boost its popularity, and possibly its value. :approve:

I had an interesting conversation yesterday with someone pretending to be a private buyer but who I have since found out by googling his telephone number is the proprietor of a dealership in a nice part of London!

I was very honest with him and told him about its interesting history, great condition, one previous owner, said the car depending on your way of thinking is due its second cambelt on age but I am prepared to negotiate on the price, press car, new starter, number 3 etc and he made me a very flattering offer.

He offered me 75% of my asking price without even bothering to come and view the car!

Now from the start of our conversation I thought what a complete c*ck but actually if a dealer is prepared to pay that imagine how much he would have flipped it for!

It sounded like he is on the hunt for these cars as he mentioned another car on here that is for sale and that his "mate?" has just bought that one. Whether thats true or not I don't know but I will be checking his website for a nice recently advertised one for sale at a hugely inflated price.

Sounds interesting, perhaps he wants one for himself/ his son etc...?

Are we allowed to know which dealer it was?

Flattering offer!!! not really :tumble:

Exactly!!

Who in their right mind is going to knock £4,750 off an £18,750 car to a wannabe Richard Rawlings over the telephone?

But he was a cash buyer?!!!!

Ok, I didn't get the sarcasm from the first post I though you were happy with that!!!!!!!!!!!

What a joker, sounds like the wheeler dealer crew...

So, what was the dealer, can you tell us? I would be interested to know, and see what other stock they have in. It would be good news for us if a really nice london specialist was looking for clio v6's.

I hope you told him where to go....

I have seen dealers trying out that approach before, and the offer, in terms of the percentage of the listed price, sounds about right. Basically they are watching market reaction/sentiment and/or hype surrounding a particular car and then try to knock the seller down in order to get the car as cheaply as possible.

Does this dealer deal in classic cars or high-end motors, or both? This would be a good information to have..........

I recently had a very similar experience with my 993RS, by a so called specialist who tried to knock its price down, but they made an offer, viewed the car, agreed that it was as per expectations and then knocked back offer back further..........and the reason, because it had non-standard wheels fitted (FYI: The wheels were lighter and used in race cars!) - they did know about the wheels before they viewed the car. I then found out that they have a lemon of a 964RS in their stock (that car did not have original wheels, RS engine or gearbox)! The price has just been reduced by £15K, so somebody may have pointed that out to them. Now this is a "high end dealer" based in a posh part of London. So seems like the Vee is getting on their radar too...........

You're right it is good news but i'm not going to be the one that lines his pockets!

There is a deal to be had on every car for a variety of reasons. You can't blame this guy for trying (its what he does) but his manner and pretending to be a private buyer is wrong!!

He has a good selection of high end and modern classics and you're right he obviously has recognised the next opportunity.

Hurlingham Motor Company Ltd, London, SW6 2SZ.

It is good news in that the Vee is getting the exposure, but the practice adopted to acquire them into stock is what I am opposed to - this is the case with dealers who sell any high-end or classic cars as opposed those who specialise in one particular marque or a few selected marques. As such, you certainly did the right thing in rejecting the offer.

Haven't heard of Hurlingham Motor Company. The company I was referring to is Hexagon Classics. The car I mention above is on the front page - it is Red!

Good luck with the sale.

I wonder if the other one his, "mate" has bought is black?
So basically, he offered you £14K cash.

Thats the way his story went! He used his "mates" deal as his bench mark for his offer on mine. I don't think #284 went for the same price but thats not my car to post on.

The car is clearly worth more (hence why he picked up the phone) but to be honest, thats not a bad offer from a dealer without a viewing.

However yes, he should of said he was a trader from the off.
