What's at the bottom of the air filter tube?

Whilst I have the Vee stripped down and in bits for the respray (coming along nicely ;) ), I would like to replace the ghastly and ugly induction kit that the previous owner fitted with the standard air filter box and tubing.

My question is: In the diagram below, what does item number 6 connect to?

Is the answer "nothing"?

Sorry to bump this one. Anyone out there with a Phase 1, when you next have the engine cover off, just take a quick peek at the air filter box and see what is below lower tube. Fanx!

Hi Danny,

Does this not just connect to the intake - therefore nothing at the bottom.

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt - I'm not sure if it does connect to the intake. At the moment I have an induction kit which just hangs there so I have no idea what was there originally.

I couldn't find anything that go between the lower filter tube and the intake

I think I'm missing a view somewhere between these two diagrams:

Either that or there is nothing connecting to the lower tube. However, saying that, on the Ph2 diagram there is a angel clip at the bottom of the lower tube, which leads me to think it connects to something...

Cheers James! You don't happen to have a similar diagram for the phase 1 do you? As the intake on the inside of the rear quartet doesn't have that inlet.

Excellent! Cheers James. Seems I was having a blonde moment and was looking at the OS panel and not the NS panel which does in fact have the inlet hole. Well, the panels are all stacked up in the spare room after getting them back from the paint shop - I was just looking at the wrong one - Doh! Case Closed.

God help me when I have to put it all back together.....

BTW they look fecking awesome.

OK so the new OEM air filter turned up from RPD and it's ready to fit to the Vee tomorrow.

I wish I had read Colin's thread before I purchased OEM as I quite like the look of his set up - LINK. Nevermind.

Anyway... I have assembled the filter and hoses. I also got a Pipercross filter to substitute the paper filter

Where the flexi-hose connects to the air filter box , it's not a great fit. It's a round hose on an oval inlet.

What should I use to hold it in place? The parts diagram (above) doesn't show a jubilee clip or similar. Doubt jubilee is the right method as the oval filter inlet is oval, thin and slightly flexible itself.

Should I use a sealant, glue, cable-tie, tape or something else?

Does anyone know the ID and OD of the "air pipe" (No. 4 in the diagram) and the OD of the "vehicle side moulding" (No. 1 in the diagram)?

I have been emailing ITG regarding their Maxogen airboxes and because they never had a Vee Ph1 in the shop so they haven't been able to make a kit out of it. I am trying to provide them with as much info as I can but since I am in HK and they are in UK makes it kinda hard for me to drop the car in for them to have a look.

Thanks in advance!

This was the email reply I last received from ITG. It seems promising but they seemed to have confused the Clio cup with the Clio Trophys

I’ve had a word with our technical manager and he seems to think that we sold a few RAB65 airboxes with a JC60/78 filters to fit a Clio V6 running in the clio cup here in the UK some years ago.
Unfortunately, we can’t seem to trace who that was and what exactly it was we put together for them, but from memory he seems to recall that this attached straight onto part 3 of your drawing and worked extremely well.

Does this help?

If someone can help or easily measure the OD of the hole on top of the LH side fan (phase 1) and the ID/OD of the airbox exhaust bend that would be great! [smilie=thanks.gif]

Info for the RAB65 can be found here in page 44 of ITG catalogue.
