Yes. But I wouldn't advise you doing this! (No offence) it's just a fairly specialist/experienced job.
 
3000 grit is basically jewellers rouge and will be very gentle on the paintwork, you will be only taking a couple of microns off the coating, about as abrasive as Farecla fine. Use a bar of green Fairy soap to keep the paper clean and remove contamination, don't use detergent as it has surfactants, salt and rinse aids in it. Also use a rubber flatting block so that you dont get finger tracks due to uneven pressure. Dawn I am sure will give you her expert opinion :bow:
 
I would only use a block on the flat surfaces, which on a vee is limited to the bonnet and roof!
