Hi all,
Had two days off work - weather forecast improved for Tuesday/Wednesday. So a quick call to my mate in Cardiff (the most reliable petrol sniffing mate one could ask for).. Deal was done - He'd pull out a day of leave especially for our last 2012 road trip before the salt..
We had done the black mountain pass back in April, it was glorious, on that occasion we headed from cardiff via the pass (A4069) towards the EVO triangle.
However we had no B&B this time and my mate had to be back for Work the next day..
So we thought we would -cris-cross the black mountains via the 4069- 4067 and 4059..

Well we woke up after a few too many pints (and waayyy too many freshers) Wednesday morning at about 8... negating the need to continue arguing over weather we should leave pre or post rush-hour...

So over to Shell to fill up, Stop at cafe for breakfast - and by 10am we were on the M4 on our way....

He drives what I would have bought (if I wasnt a V6 nut since the EVO mag free print fell out onto my lap in 2004. - Mars red crossing a ford in Scotland) its a 350Z with the 300 hp engine.

The roads were deliciously empty... showers on and off with a good wind - drying the roads quickly. Unforturnatly all that wax I put on last week (pre hibernation)got covered in road grime
The Blackmountain pass for anyone who hasnt been - has to be a must do... I lived in scotland for 6 years with a 182... and It honestly matches up.. (when quiet)
What we did not expect was the AMAZINGNESS of the A4059 ...

It was STUNNING... in comparison to the more traditional pass of the A4069 which has narrower, 'slower, tighter turns with sheer drop off's. The A4059 was wide - open, corner leading into corner... it was Glorious! -
In a word - the A4069 perfect for a Caterham - the A4059 perfect for a Zonda...
Anyhow - as expected (with all that bloody money over the summer) the V performed perfectly... the new Falcon 452's never found trouble, We were never yobs, we do it for the joy of A-A trips on roads you wait all year for...
Anyhow back in Birmingham - washed and re-waxed, back in the garage - Break dust is a total bitch... (oh and my fronts are red-stuff, rears mintex) - all the wheels have just been acid dipped and re-coated - the rears were 100% easier to clean than the fronts - and the rears were much filthier..
I bloody love this car.... LOVE... BG #212 (now with 36k)

(Fav pic - just turned on lights (less than seconds prior) so the Hallogens hadnt warmed up and were green!)
