V6 Prices

Hi all

After getting withdrawals from owning a v6(I sold my last one in October) I have been looking and waiting for the right car to come up. I have to say though does anybody else on here in all honesty not feel that the V6 market is incredibly slow and some prices that are being asked seem to be plucked from the sky. There are a number of cars(in-fact pretty much all the mk2's) that take my fancy, but I cant quite get my head around the prices that people are hoping to achieve , especially as I've owned 3 now and I know,as fantastic as they are-that they are a VERY hard car to sell. I realise that there has been some good press on these cars recently and people (owners especially) seem to think they will be good news in the near future, but supply seems to be higher than demand at the moment-as is usually the case cars come out the woodwork this time of year, but other than the black mk2 I haven't seen a car sell yet ,though I'm sure I might be wrong? . I just wondered what other peoples thoughts on this was, I really don't mean to upset anyone or "throw a cat in" as I love these cars, but just after other peoples thoughts really before I go off the idea of owning another.

Thanks.

Hi Jim,
The V6 is a great used car buy in my opinion, I really do think these cars will increase in value slowly over the next few years, I'm so glad I listened to everyone on here who recently advised me NOT to swap mine for an M6 , I do think you could buy a V6 now and run it for a few years and get your money back when it's sold, I've owned 26 cars and always lost out on sales and p/x (including £6000 in 6 months on an M3) But I did get my money back on both VEE'S I sold to members on here ,
I was tempted by an old NSX a few years ago that I viewed at £16000, that car now is up for sale today on all the usual sites for £37000 !!! maybe the VEE will follow this trend,

I feel your withdrawl pains! Exactly what i went through!

I guess the thing is theres no guide or book prices for these cars. As they are getting older condition is varying greater and therefore people selling nice ones are going to price them accordingly. But prices are not going down.

There are a few at once at the moment, it was only a few weeks ago that only 1 was on PH.

A few cars on PH/Autotrader do seem to take a while to sell, but the v6s are still regularly selling. An Ly sold last week, a BG sold within 1 a couple of days last month: LINK.

The really cheap ones get snapped up by our friends on the continent, leaving us with less and less cars in the UK as time goes on.

If you like the car but dont like the price, go and view it, see if its what you want and try your haggling skills. If they see a sale and want it gone you may be able to agree a price your both happy with.

Supply/demand is a hard one to call when there are less than mk2s for sale in the country!

I've got first hand experience of this, I've taken my car off sale because it wasn't selling (really I'm glad it didn't sell, I'm going to keep it for the moment), but you could say I had mine overpriced, but then I've spent quite a bit getting it right (I know you can't expect to get that money back though).

Yes, peoples opinions vary on this topic..............I thought Dans car was well priced (superb condition) and would sell straight away !

Shows you how we view things so differently with these "rare" cars.

The people that can afford to buy and hold onto for the long haul (I think) will reap their rewards..........remember some aren't even 10 years old yet. Give it another 10 and see what the prices are then :s

Mine is sat in a bubble at the moment , with only around 12,000 miles on it. I thinking one day it will be worth more money, but as times go by I'm starting to think do I just use it or just sell, as its nice to see throught it's little bubble/ home and every now and then it's started and taken for a little run, but at this rate it wi need a cam belt change once again and maybe only covered 100 inbetween , so I'm thinking do I sell or keep , will its value go up, as like you say these cars are moving over sea's and getting written off so they are bound to start to go up in value, I to have an M3 and over the last 5 years I have watched how they have lost so much money, but they will never be as rare as the V, my wife keeps saying sell it as I have got to have 2 operations this year and prob will not work anymore this year and money will be very tight as I'm self employed, I love my little V and always said one day I will own one, and where I'm from you don't see them and it the time they have been on the road I can say I have not seen more than 10 so they are rare , and I think owners have a right to value there cars high because of this rareness , and most don't really want to sell them , but if the money is right then they can be persuaded, but then end up wanting back in one and end up paying top wack for one, you either love these or hate them, but allway wonder what they are like if not end up buying one knowing you can allways sell and get your money back, I think these cars are very cheap to run, just sit back and wait for that car to come along at a price you feel you can aford , good luck

In ten years time, the original panel examples will have recovered to their original retail price.

At what rate of recovery I cannot say...

The vee is a guaranteed future classic with an eventual ridiculous price tag. The fact is limited production, rare, hand built, bonkers concept and all that which that notion entails is a guarantee of it being worth an awful lot more in the future. Classic example has to be every time someone starts asking about the vee they almost can't believe what I am telling them. The biggest thing is telling them there is 3l V6 in the back!! They don't quite believe me!! If we are getting this sort of reaction now imagine as time goes and the less common the vee is and the less it is in the forefront of the general populations minds (99% plus won't even know the vee exists even now) then the concept of the vee seems even more outlandish and even more mythical that it actually made production.
Best example is R5 Turbos. The vee will etch history in the same way. Consequently iconic cult status and classic nature will have a natural tendency to push the values up.
Look at all the cars which people think are iconic they have multiple editions and iterations. The vee only has two and the beauty is RWD nature and mid-engine design giving it all the more uniqueness. How many Subaru Imprezas have there been, EVOs  , fast ford focus's ST and RS and RS 500 etc., extend it to modern porsches, audi tt variants, bmw m3s. The vee will be worth more than its retail price, the above I doubt it.
Road going versions 2822 vees were made. 3576 R5 Turbos. Makes interesting reading ;)
The best thing about the vee ....... its looks. Even today it doesnt look dated and never will particularly the ph2 with it's more aggressive look.

I would buy a vee now cos it seems prices have bottomed out. The ph1 represents an absolute bargain.

All I can say is go for it - in 5-10 years you will not regret it if you pick up the right one................
