I spent yesterday evening sharing a bottle of red with my wife discussing the 'V' bit means in the V6.

6 bit, she knew is had 6.... 6 what she was not sure, we worked out my BMW had 6, her car has 4 (Seat Leon Curpra) and you can have for 1 to 12 in various modes of transport. Still not sure 6 of what though, spark plugs... yes but no on my BMW (its a diesel) that puzzled her, valves? - no, rocker bockers -no, Head gaskets well I told her, my bmw has 1, her car has 1, but the V6 has 2.... she was still very confused???
Eventually I explained the whole V bit to her, by which time most of the bottle of red had gone. We then did a little dance with out hands cover explain the 'Box' set up, 'straight' set up, 'flat' and finally vee.

Does anybody else have fun evenings like this when trying to explain our love for our Vees with their other halfs?

Ian

Spent a night explaining internal combustion and how turbos work on my gt to my better half one evening.... It was no nooky for me that night!!

my god Ian I dont even know where to begin with this one. having known you over 20 years I know you've never had any problem charming the birds out of the trees... but i never realised that this piston chat was your secret weapon. she must have been piston red wine maybe ! it must have been good! now i know your lovely wife works in the care industry but again this takes care in the community to a new level. All i can say is that those diamonds she wants for christmas must be really expensive. ;)

It was quite the opposite Matt, I think the talk of 90 degree banks, pistons & big ends that sealed the deal and off to bed we went! ;)

That and the Mo has gone!!

Ha! Have done the same with my missus a few times. Explaining DSG was best. She now asks why I'm not fitting this and that to my car and why I need to fit 2 external wastegates as opposed to just one.... Makes me laugh.
