Under tray

Hi all
I was chatting with my friend today who specialises in carbon fibre.. I asked him whether he'd be interested in making me a carbon fibre under tray because the plastic one is S#*t! He said that he would use my under tray as a mould. Just wondered if I put up pictures of it and the price is right would anyone else be interested ??? Thanks Phil

Can't see that being cheap! Even compared to Renault price for the standard tray. Post the price once you know fella! :approve:

When you remove the trays you'll be surprised at how much damage they have taken, I hope CF will be man enough.

Nice idea but can't imagine it being cheap with the amount of carbon fibre required and the costs of producing the moulds.
Might get more interest if you do parts that can be seen, like the centre console or engine covers.
Would like to see some of your mates carbon stuff to satisfy my carbon fetish though ;)

Lol you and your centre consoles!

Whilst he's at it, get all body panels made in CF ;)

Leave it with me fellas ..the guy in question is always up for ideas.. He builds masts and small sailing boats out of carbon fibre. I am fitting new recaro seats at the weekend and will drop the trays down to him. As soon as ican give you guys a cost estimation and pics i will let you know :salut:

Guys I know very little about carbon fibre but he made a nice job of my hpi baja chassis . I will put your ideas to him .is there eny one else making the parts alread? The spoiler, I can show him mine but are you after the duck tail .as for a splitter is there a style your looking for.

This would be my concern too, going over speed bumps you can hear the tray catching occasionally, the plastic can take the scuffing but I think CF may prove to be too brittle [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Which reminds me that I've had a new wee cover made to cover up some air con pipes which I'm told are as standard quite exposed and prone to damage.

To be honest, a carbon undertray would probably shatter to a million pieces within a few weeks, think of road debris flying up off the ground or from the tyres.
A better solution would be a carbon kevlar matrix, though it's quite heavy.
Cost would be pretty prohibitive too, pre-preg runs at about £150 m^2 and thats at about 0.3mm per ply, you'd need about 4 plies to get something anyway near decent and man enough. it's not gonna be cheap....
In all honesty, an Alu tray would be the best option IMHO
