Tyres

Just a quick one, what tyre sizes are people using?

Last set I used was 205 40 18 on the front and 245 40 18 on the rear, im sure Ive read that other sizes can be used. Would like to try something else this time round.

Thanks

I would be careful using a different size tyre to manufacturer's standard as I have read this can invalidate your insurance, so if you do change to a different size make sure you advise your insurance as this would be seen as a modification

Just a quick note regarding the Michelins.

Since Michelin stopped making the 205s.

From the chief designer of the Vee MK 2 says the official Renault recommended replacement is :

Michelin Pilot Sport 2
Size: 225/40 R18 (88Y)

so what the difference between the two and which one are we saying it the correct one to go for ????

255 Chassis 001 still has it's original pilot sports and they are 215/35/18. This is -2.17% compared to the production tyre. Drives fine.

215/40/18 is +1.29%

Those are the two closest options.

SO these + and - percents does that mean how much bigger or smaller the tyre is overall ??? and if you have a smaller tyre is the car lower to the ground ??

Got 215/40s on mine , I would go with that if I was you, dont want to get any lower. plus 35 profile would look to small against the rears in my opinion, and give a harsh ride!

I've got 225s on mine pilot sport 3s. If you go for 225 it's a more common tyre, there's a lot more choice and generally are substanially cheaper.

Are the rears not supposed to be bigger?

well yes but the fronts if 35 profile would look like rubber bands compared to the rears,

the 35 means the side wall height is 35% if the width

205/40 has a 82mm side wall

215/40 has a 86mm side wall

225/40 has a 90mm side wall

and 215/35 has a 75.52mm side wall

if my calculations are right :s
