Tyres

Hi guys ,
I know this has probably come up many times before but I could find a clear answer so here we go

Looking for some new tyres for the vee and to be honest I am finding it really tough, I have even spoken to our suppliers at work and they can only offer me one choice so I thought I would post

I was after a performance road tyre such at the Yokohama pradas which are fine for the rear but not the front! From searching around on the net it does not look like many companies are making a 205 tyres anymore

Any suggestions?? :s

You dont have to use 205, a popular choice on here is the Falken 452 which you can get in 215 AFAIK I can confirm these tyres are good as I had four fitted for the last three months of my ownership 8)

There was mention on here a while back, from a guy 'in the know' at Renault UK to keep to the Michelin's iirc. Obviously the OEM 205's are no longer an option, but I imagine the next size up, 215, would be the next best thing.

Falken 452's do seem to be a popular option here now. Not had any myself, so cant comment personally on their performance.

Ben, If you do go for the Pradas it'd be good to hear your opinions on them for the vee.

I recently bought a new set of 4. I went for pilot sport 3s 225 on the front and 245 on the back. Never had any issues feel very grippy epecially in the wet. Considerably more expensive than the falken however.

i can't comprehend why people would put falkens on their vee's?! there horrible things. I had 512's? or 412's i forget. Ditch seekers...Bit of a sweeping statement to say they are all bad, but surely there is better alternatives. I.e Vredesteins, Dunlop's, TOYO's or Contisport 3's!

that's exactly what a guy in a garage said to me when I asked about them. I decided first rear wheel drive car I'll get the best tyre.

Just a quick note regarding the Michelins.

Since Michelin stopped making the 205s.

From the chief designer of the Vee MK 2 says the official Renault recommended replacement is :

Michelin Pilot Sport 2
Size: 225/40 R18 (88Y)

Whatever you fit, just make sure either end is the same, I had terrible handling problems with rear Pirellis and original Michelins up front, Loads of tread left so did not give it a thought, tried all sorts of alignment checks, took all the ball joints off to check them and gave in. Out of desperation just before the Mas du Clos trip I fitted the same trye to the front and all problems solved, handling back as sweet as ever.

I 100% agree with mark. Do not mix and match!

The search is driving me crazy! i want to use the pradas can get boots for the front but they dont make a rear wide enough, tbh it looks like i will be sticking with out faithfull and buying a new set of ps3s [smilie=doubt.gif]

Good choice, even throught all the bad weather we have had recently I've not had any sorts of problems with them, however if you get the 225/40s they do rub a bit at full lock
