Tyre wear on rears

Just had a look at my rears and they are down to the cloth on the inside inch (oops) and part worn on the outer area after only 5000 miles. Is this normal? In all my years of having performance cars I've never seen tyres wear so quick.
I have called the Ren garage to complain that the rear settings must be wrong and they said they will check them but if all is OK then I will have to pay for new tyres as they won't allow me to drive away - at £240.88 each! Ouch.
What do you think - is this normal or something wrong. Original tyres from new and I've been driving carefully.

Nope not normal ... and indicative of the rear settings being out. Has your car had its gearbox off at all?

Rears should wear evenly. Fronts wear the insides out first due to negative camber.

Also they're reaming you on tyre prices ... rears can be had for about £160 each from the right place!

Ehrmm Andy,
The fronts wear DEFINiTIVELY due to toe settings!!
NOT the camber.

I'll put up a picture which shows my front wear after modifiing the toe from -0.5 to +0.5

@piotrmachetta

The massive wear on the rear could be due to the steeringlinks on the rear. If they are sloppy, then you get massive wear on the rear inside.
But actually you should feel that immediately because the Vee gets very loose on the rear.

The other thing you mention is wear in and outside. This indicates to me also a too low tirepressure.

On the rear I run over 45000km and they wear out very even.

You should check the arm joints on the back as harry said, mine came loose after a while and ruined one tyre.

Thanks guys, sorry for delayed replies but I've been away. Ren garage checked the tracking (originally they told me it only needed 2 wheel alignment and then next day changed their mind and said it needed 4 wheel alignment) and found camber (I think) out on rear. Yes I did have the gearbox changed due to whining noises so that was probably the reason.
What I wanted to say was that the 4 wheel alignment has transformed the cars handling. For the best part of a year I had driven along motorways constantly having to correct for the twitchy front end (not a relaxing ride at 100 mph) and in the wet the back end trying to step out and now it feels totally planted - a joy to drive.
I ended up contributing £170 to Ren garage for the 2 rears so I was happy.
