As some of you may already know @r5skywalker (Dave) is not a bad guy. I first dealt with him over on another site where he has the name Topcat, he offered to sort me out some wheels cheap and threw another set in for free, nice guy I thought. So I set off Essex to pick them up (only about 45 mins away). When I got there I was greeted into his home with a cup of coffee and what turned out to be a decent chat (let's face it, we've all met people and thought they were complete tw@ts after seeming ok on the phone!). I pulled away, wheels in the back of my van and off home I set with the thought of "decent bloke"......... this sort of transaction/meet is how I'd like to think most people would like to be treated by fellow club members..........

Well, over the last couple of months we've exchanged a lot of texts (mostly banter), discussing the new forum/club and generally about cars/work, being of a similar age I suppose we've got a similar sense of humour, but again, you think nice guy to know through the club, even though you don't REALLY know each other.

Yesterday I was travelling home with the missus along the A12 from my sisters wedding in Essex (not far from where Dave lives) when the auxiliary belt snapped on my daily!!!! A 3L E39 BMW! This belt ran the fan, water pump, alternator and power steering, I managed to source one locally and had tools in the boot. I'm no mechanic but I know the basics around an engine and wouldn't normally find changing a belt that difficult, but being as I'd been to a wedding, I had decent clobber on and the belt was a pig to get to access wise!!! The only person that I could think of locally to point me in the direction of a mobile mechanic was Dave. After explaining my plight and the need for a mobile mechanic if he knew of one, he told me not to worry and sit tight. He cancelled the job he was on his way to and was there within 10 mins!! He spent the next hour and a half under the bonnet of my car carrying out a shitter of a job for someone he barely knows!! Once it was done I offered to pay him for his time and potentially lost work and was promptly told to Fuck off!! "Buy me a McDonald's when you come up next week" was the reply!

What can I say??? Dave is a top top bloke and a true gent! A total credit to the club and someone that I'd now consider a friend (even if he does have a hairdressers car as a daily!!) If I am ever able to repay the favour I will do so without hesitation!

Thanks mate!;)

All jokes aside.. I met a proper good mate through the old Renault 5 gt turbo.com site.. Brought a house round the corner from him, done allot of stuff together! I think it's the cars that help 2! Most people who own a regy are decent people.. Looking to learn and help others, these sites just bring em together

Great story, a friend in need and all that ;)
Exactly! There are people I've known half my life that wouldn't have done that! I was always a bit sceptical about owners clubs and forums, I suppose I thought they were full of boring people or really clicky, and to be fair quite a few are! But when I got the 5 I thought I might as well join if for no other reason than a way to source parts/information, I never really thought about the social aspect! But I have met a couple of guys like @r5skywalker who have really shown me what being in a club like this is about! Don't get me wrong, I've met quite a few nob jockeys as well!! :p

lol nice one, ive had a few car issues along the way and have called on car folk local to where i am a few times. Gearbox delivered to santapod when i stripped 5th on the way there, Fan belt delivered to llandow circuit after loosing mine on track, engine and fitting the day before said track day. I think there usually are plenty of folk in the car world that are willing to help out when they can just for having a love of the same type of cars. Its a great thing that is rarely seen in everyday life these days. Long live club spirit.

But im still undecided on anyone who quotes and posts pics of mariah carey!!!!!!

It's amazing what a car club can do for your life. Both my kids have godparents that I would never have met if it wasn't for the 21TOC. Thats quite a significant impact, for an online forum.

same, one of my daughters godparents is a friend through a car club. Amazing really, family from friends of car clubs lol
