Trophy owner!

Hi guys,

My name is Stan, I'm based down in Dorset.

I'm Renaultsport mad to be honest.

Soon to be picking up my second 182 Trophy which is my 4th 182. Ive had 2 200's and a White Megane R26.

Bit sad really!

I think my next Renaultsport will be a v6 so thought I'd join up and learn all about it.

Cheers,

Stan

Thanks for the welcome Williams.

Hi Ravydavy, the 200 is a great car, you can really put it through the corners at high speed and it still feels so stable.

I've come back to the Trophy because it's so light, nimble, direct and feels rapid. The 200 will be as quick as the Trophy but just doesn't feel it. The weight doesn't help.

Both are fantastic cars though.

Welcome!
You're in the right place. there is nothing sad about appreciating quality cars, especially the Clio 182 trophy which was "the best hot hatch in the world" when it was launched, well according to Autocar anyway! because obviously the V6 is a supercar so not in the same class ;)

Thanks for the welcome GPH.

Has anyone driven the Trophy and the V6? I'm assuming someone would have had a 182 and a V6 if not.

I know the V6 would be faster to 60 and through the gears but on a B-road blast, surely the Trophy would win hands down.

Might be wrong though so opinions and experiences welcome so I can get an idea.

Mossy has one of each... but he's probably up to his neck in nappies at the mo

...expect an appraisal before the weekend is out! :approve:

:welcome: to the forum Stan.

Quite a few members have the Renault Sport bug!!!!! Here's my pair

Both great quick cars but personally I'd be happier pushing the 182 around B roads but there wouldn't be much in them. Might be more a case of I'd rather bin the 182 than the vee

Nice line up of cars and the Trophy is a winner. Mossy has a bloody lovely one and is half the reason I bought a nice 172. I've never been out in a Trophy (182) but if it corners anything like mine which is on coilovers and toyo's (I think they do) then they are weapons in the corners. On a windy road I know very well I'd still say the v6 will just beat it if my ball were big enough. With out a brave pill though a Trophy would show a vee a clean pair of heals for sure.

Welcome

182 better than the 200s then?

Currently have both. I cant think of two cars that are such polar opposites in their characteristics and your approach to driving them.

One you can go batshit mental in (as you will know) the other you have to learn.

Welcome Stan :approve:

I think given wet or greasy roads the trophy would probably have the v6.
My only experience is following a trophy on dry roads at a meet through the peak district a few years ago. There was one in front of me in the convoy and i was getting frustated that i could only give the v6 about 70% throttle as i was reeling him in on every single corner exit and straight.

I wouldnt class myself as a good driver, but i was suprised by the outcome.

I have owned a 182 Trophy, a cupped 200 and a V6. In my experience the 200 would be the faster on the B roads, it corners so well and is planted more than the Trophy. However, the T was more fun, the rear wriggling around more and tripodding round corners.

Now the V6 is totally different. You can't class it as a similar car for obvious reasons. The others you can abuse and they'll just do predictable things on the road. The Vee is a lot lighter up front, and so is the steering, which for me, at least, causes more nervousness. Being heavier also impacts on the brakes, or should I say braking distance. I always seem to be cautious as not sure how well it would react if I needed to trail brake round the corner compared to the others.

However, the amount of traction the Vee has did surprise me. As long as you don't bury your foot mid corner you can still go round them at a decent pace. Its more of a challenge but therefore more rewarding when you get it right.

I've enjoyed getting to know mine while its been a bit damp to help find the limits. Can't wait for the spring/summer to go for some proper hoonage

Fastest on a B road I would say 200, Trophy, then V6. What order would I put on the fun factor - V6, Trophy, 200

That's the two 200's, R26 and the 1st Trophy.

Picking up the second Trophy next weekend.

The first two cars have had the wheel trims nicked  (can you tell I'm not a fan of the black wheels)
