Trophy coils - where to buy a set

WONGY

New Member
Had a couple of coil failures and want to buy a set of Trophy coils cos the labour at the dealers isn't cheap!

Tried Scott at SG who said he can't get them after he tried Renaultsport

Anyone got other ideas or contacts that can help?

Replacing the Sagem with Valeo (sp?) ones seems to do the trick. I've yet to read of a Valeo one "going"

Done that already Twice!

Speaking to Scott the heat in Hong Kong could be why they're blowing every two years as regularly reaches 35c+ here

This is my third set I've chaned on 6 years :( and its always one or two that goes manifold side goes meaning 200 quid labour cos only dealers will touch the vee here!

So I want to replace with trophy s and done with it fingers crossed

I'm pretty sure i can still get them, but if anyone has a picture of them it would help me identify which are the correct ones, i have 2 types listed but i forget which is which!

You probably know this wongy, but they're not a plug and play swap. You need modification to get them to fit the road cars.

This thread may be of use as it lists stockists of Trophy parts

I had a Valeo fail last month but it had been in since December 2007.

Wongy, changing the coils, even the ones under the plenum is pretty straight forward. My mechanical knowledge is very limited, but the second time I removed the plenum I had the plenum off and back on in 30 minutes. The thing that took the longest is getting the various covers off as there are 900,000 screws holding it down!

If i ever need to take the plenum of again I will write a guide up if it helps other Phase 1 owners.

Thanks guys for replies - currently the car is intermittent fault on coil 6 but did pass the emissions for the MOT. Has occasional stutter under load and fuel smell so not too keen on driving it too much in case damage the cats

Yeap understood have to do some soldering / different connectors but the dealer said they'll handle it. Think there are two bolts not one like oem coils? Is there a second hole just needs tapping with a thread? Or I heard you can just use the one bolt like oem works ok?

Got a friend to contact Migny Courses cos he speaks French waiting for them to reply as well

Bad timing to be honest cos I just shipped 80kg of parts a month ago to hong kong with new discs pads for the vee and my E55 but at least I've got the other car to drive till I get this sorted

Yes got them from Migny Courses though took a few weeks as the owner doesn't rush getting things done! mycolleague luckily speaks French as the seller didn't speak English which helped :)

Bargain at 12 for 240 gbp cos I got a spare set - that's less than even oem valeos at 20 quid each and obviously more reliable

They're defo much more heavy duty just by their feel and weight probably because of more protective resin which will cure the heat issues and failures I've had here

Just getting them fitted now by the dealer though they're a bit cautious because you need to tap a screw thread plus cut wires, get connectors etc so it's a bit of work to fit them

Ill see if they can take photos for the knowledge base

Are these the genuine article?

Yeap defo the real thing :)

Getting them fitted at the mo once the dealer finishes off prepping a big consignment of new electric cars they got in

Only downside is Migny Courses do take some time to respond and don't speak much English but google translate should help

Thanks - good to know. Indeed, Google Translate does a pretty good job these days.

Hope these coils gets rid of those gremlins once and for all...........
