Toyo R888

big peaches

New Member
Can any one give me any feedback to what these are like, i have been on there web site and it dosnt look like they do a 205.40.18 for the mk2. i love the look of these, and have a set of winter tyres i dont particuly want to use.

has any of the mk1 guys used these ??

I have them on mine. Excellent in the dry but I wouldn't even try and push them in the wet or damp on the road.

Have tried Toyo T1s and Goodyear Eagle F1 as well as the original Pilot Sport 1 (standard on the Mk1). R888s are my favourite.

We use them on the higher end members of our fleet. I'd echo what Tim has said - in the dry they are superb tyres developing excellent grip and are progressive on the limit. In the damp or wet it's a different story - they simply cannot get rid of water quickly enough.

Looking at the Toyo R888s dealer prices I can see that the smallest they are currently doing on an 18" is 225/40.

You may want to check out the calculator at http://www.tyresite.com/tyrecalc.asp which can help you work out what size tyres you can actually fit on your rims (you'll find that you can upsize).

Forgot to add - we've finally got our deal with Toyo sorted out which means that I can offer R888s and T1R/S at silly prices.

As I said above we get a good deal because we use Toyo exclusively across our fleet (which should also tell you something about how good they are).

I can put together a few options based around standard Mk1 and Mk2 tyres sizes for full sets if anyone is interested.

To give a quick indication I could do a set of R888s 235/45 17 (e.g. rear of MK1) at something around £149 each.

The other thing I'd add is that if anyone is interested in knowing what the max tyre sizes you can fit to a MK1 then it's in theory:

Front 215/45 Rear 245/40 <- these may not be the absolutely maximum but according to the calculator at http://www.tyresite.com/tyrecalc.asp these are as big as you can go without significantly affecting your rolling radius...

Am I still right in thinking that you can't get the correct size for front and rear on a mk2 tho? :(

Would be interested in a set for summer use.

Peter :D

Max, I run 255/40 17 on my Mk1, standard wheels. 255 is the widest possible on the 8.5 rim. That's the closest to original diameter I believe.
Fronts I'm going 225/45.

I havent got a V6 but a Fiesta ST....using T1R's on the front and they are brilliant :)

Heard the R888 are great in the dry but in the wet is a bit iffy.....:(

v6 max i lloved the eagel f1's when i had my 182 can they be obtained for a mk 2 v6, sizes

front : 18x40x205
back: 18x40x245

Max gets Toyo not Goodyear and I don't think they do a front in 205/40/18. It's not an easy one to get.

Tim are you sure on that max size for the fronts? 225/45 is showing up as needing a 7.5 or greater rim width.

All, I'm working out prices now.

205/40 18 is not available in R888 or T1S/R although Toyo will be announcing this size at some point this year leaving the only option as upsizing if you wanted to go with Toyo.

Max, I remember it from a previous Toyo tyre size calculator and Mike has run 225s on the front for a long time..............

Mk1:

R888s
235/45 17 @ £149ea
Upsized front to 225/45 @£145ea

T1-R
235/45 @ £82ea
205/50 @ £74ea

MK2:

R888s
Fronts don't seem possible...
245/40 18 @ £165ea

T1-R
205 40 18 Not yet available
Upsizer 215 35 @ £86ea
(option will affect the rolling radius)

245 40 18 @ £115ea

I need to check the upsizing for the 205 40 to 225 because Toyo's website is contradicting another site...

Mike and I run 255/40/17 on the rears Max. It's close to the standard 235/45

Can you get a price on these too?

Thanks

Tim

Tim,

R888s 255/40/17 £159ea

T1-R 255/40/17 £93ea

If you find them cheaper elsewhere let me know and I may be able to match...

PS
I'm planning on running 245/40 rear and 215/45 fronts and will probaly stick with T1-Rs
