The ultimate Renault Sleeper...?

Whilst driving my little Raider over the weekend, I pulled behind a new Z4 Cabriolet and the guy accelerated away from a roundabout on a dual carriageway and I was reminded of the VAG Clio I used to own. I commented to Sarah that if we were in that Clio, I'd have given him a few things to think about..

So it made me think, what would be a great project for an insanely fast Renault, that doesn't look all too different, but will show more modern cars up??

I'm still thinking a Clio with a VAG 2.0tfsi engine in would take some beating... (German reliability in the running gear, and French looks for my passion) but I see that you can get some decent power out of the Megane 250 engines and the Gearboxes aren't all bad...?

Any ideas chaps??

The problem with the clio is I dont think its stealty enough.
If I wanted a Q car that Renault made something like what @Adey has with a more modern lump would make it a straight line hero.
Failing that I bet you could do something with an espace and a lot of money. Would be interesting to remove the rear seats and have a lump in there.

So many choices and so much work depending on the car.

mk2 r5 campus with an engine swap. theres a k20 one kicking about that's very fast.

early laguna with a 250 lump would be a cool car, add some subtle BTCC body mods and no one would bat an eyelid.

I was having discussions with a few mates about how easy it would be to convert the dope into a straight line traffic light weapon. Something that could pull the front wheels up, that's something for future though though. but I imagine going wheels up at the traffic lights lol wouldnt even need to won the race 😁

for stealth to work it needs to be a base model really, but to make it worth while apocalypticly fast.

Omg yes, I was thinking about them for ages before I got the twingo a while back. A gold/champagne one for extra points

Renault 21 Savanna, in white, with grey plastic bumpers (faded) - if you could find a Savanna Quadra even better (but unlikely)

Tuned 21 Turbo lump

Modern sporty cars are making 400hp+ effortlessly now days.
Things have progressed so much in turbo engines.

I remember when I thought my MK1 valva was quick! 🤣

A proper street sleeper (imo) is one that isn't trying too hard to be a sleeper.

So no hubcap missing, no box of tissues and road atlas on parcel shelf etc. 🤣

I'd say a MK1 Mégane hatchback (oasis or some shit like that). Perfect for engine swap as the bay is gigantic! Handle well, and just blend in.

eerrrrrr

laguna ii ph2, gt205 ESTATE, with towbar! ;-)
megane 225 engine (with different exhaust cam) - it was the 165 turbo that had the smaller turbo etc

oh hang on, its parked outside at the moment (soon be for sale if someone wants a sleeper)
