The 1957 Dope Dauphine

not with the current engine nope. but the 4 speed allows me to fit later c series engines, easily double my current power output. I'm doing it to make it more usable rather than to go fast mind, I'm on servoless drum brakes so cant go too wild 😂

Did I mention I have a C1J that's been thru the wars (It was under the bloody wall that got knocked over in my council garage) that I could donate to this build...

So i got her started today without the choke, wouldn't run till warm though as expected. Took it for a hairy ride to the local garage, isolated myself in the car and then waiting till no one was around i tried to pump the tires up, new issue found. One valve wont allow any more air in, and one leaks when its pushed sideways, annoying as these are inner tubes...

It wasn't far, probably 2 miles all in, car is so much better pulling off and accelerating (not sure you can call it that) so the points and ignition timing tweak have made a difference (cheers @Turbell (y)) saw a whole 50mph without too much fuss so fast enough for the local roads. Runs smoothly and well enough to use but the oil is still murky and pump still dribbling water out. It wasn't long ago that i dropped all the oil and put fresh in so still a little concerned but hope it might just be condensation from not really running and just getting a little warm whilst idling on the drive??

Chased up my order for the pump rebuild parts that i placed on the 13th, listed as in stock, but only being dispatched today, really hoped they would be here for the weekend, but then ive got a fair bit time on my hands.....

its not the tire that's the issue ( i replaced them with modern ones) it was because the steel wheel is riveted together that the tire place fitted inner tubes

AAANnnnnnnnnnd the carb doesn't fit lol, was worth a look though.

More annoying issues. I removed the water pump in anticipation of the rebuild parts turning up. Only to find the plate it bolts too has corroded away, it has had another bit of metal put over the top of it at some point in its life which is now also rotted away so i require a new one. Not expensive but yet another thing to buy if i want to use it as is.

But im now wondering if i should just stop? pull the lot out now as that's the future plan anyway and stop throwing money at the little engine im going to be removing?
