Temp gauge question

Just changed my Thermostat and for the first time i've heard my fans kick in, when they did the guage was just over the half way mark but not in the higher end of the scale.

Is this normal or is the temp sender unit playing up? Glad to hear my fans kick in tho, hope this cures the lack of heat on the motorway on these cold mormings after changing the thermostat too.

Which fans? Front or side?

Front's, do the side ones come on at same time or at a second level of temp range?

Side ones come on later. There's an ambient temp sensor in the engine bay that controls them.
