Sterling motors ph1 #429

New Member
Hello,

New member from up in the highlands, not an owner yet. Looking at a clio v6 as a potential new car. Found this one at sterlingmotors.co.uk, i was wondering if anyone on here has any info on it? private reg on it v6eno [v6plaque]429[/v6plaque] phase 1

Ive never driven one, but always loved the maddness. Im close, real close to purchasing a aston martin vantage v8, but during the night i had thought.... in my unlimited sized dreamed garage i wouldn't have one, plenty other astons id have in its place. I would however have a clio v6!

Ill see where this goes, i really need to drive one but typically there isnt one anywhere near me.

any info on that car would be great,

Cheers
Rory

Hi Rory, and welcome!

Interesting to choose between a vantage v8 and the Clio! Both very different beasts.

Take a read of this. Its a post by the previous owner and gives you a great insight into its history.

[v6plaque]429[/v6plaque] looks like a very good car to me. The only things that look odd in the photos are panel gap/paint match issues.

The near side wing looks a different colour to the bumper and the nearside door appears to be 'hanging low' - it doesn't quite line up with the rear wing or side pod. The sill doesn't quite sit right with the front wing. Perhaps its had some paint and not been fitted perfectly straight.

I have to say its rare to find a phase 1 for sale in that kind of general condition, it looks really nice.

It would be worth trying to find a kind local owner to show you round their car so you know what your looking for and for them to take you out for a spin!

Hi Roy,

The car is mine and i purchased it new in 2002. I still have the receipt. The add is out of date and put up by a friend of mine who works at sterling. The car is very much still I’m my possession.

Its just come back from Scott at SG for a full service, belt change etc. No screw or bolt was left unturned. Scott said it was best V6 he’d seen years. It’s never caused me any trouble and it’s now ready for another 18 years of service.

It’s also had a full machine polish and ceramic coating so the outside matches the inside. The interior still has that new car smell.

If you want to PM me I’ll happily have a chat with you.

Good advise as always Duncan. As I mentioned in the previous post they are old photos. The drivers side door catch had worked loose and has since been tightened. The car has had paint on the bumper and bonnet to remove stone chips in 2013 to bring the car back to mint condition ready for use as our wedding car. Other than that the car is completely original and very close to concourse condition now. It still has the original exhaust. It’s not currently advertised for sale but I’m willing to discuss any sensible offers. The car is like a part of the family and it will be hard to say goodbye. I think I’m emotional ready for it go but happy to keep it if not. I’ve put a few pictures below so you can see the condition of the underside and paintwork now.

Wow that looks mint and owned from new. No brainer.

I'm in Edinburgh, appreciate not quite the Highlands but perhaps a little closer than most. Welcome to have around mine if you would like.

Aberdeenshire if that’s any help?. :approve:

Looks in absolutely fantastic condition Neil!!

Don’t sell it if you don’t need to, you’ll regret it and never find another one like it!

Great looking example you have there, and as the only owner of [v6plaque]429[/v6plaque], I can only agree with Duncan. :approve:

Wow thanks for the responses, sorry my reply has been so late but time ran away,

I’d need to trade my 944 in so I’ll get in touch with sterling and see if this is smthing they would consider,

Thanks

Rory

Looks like [v6plaque]429[/v6plaque] has a new owner after 20 years...

Just an observation, the V6 Register has 2 separate entries for [v6plaque]429[/v6plaque] - one with the reg. V6 ENO and the other with S7 RUM, which I assume is the 'later' plate as it is the same photgraphed when the Vee sold last on 6th Sep 2022: 2002 RENAULT CLIO V6 PHASE 1
