Steering wheel

I will soon have 2 clios that need new steering wheels due to the old melting issue. What would you do:

1. Get two orginal from reno for £700 [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]
2. Get clio 200 ones for about the same dosh.
3. Get re-furbs.

Imo these cars need to be totally standard going forward so i'm veering towards option 1 but knowing you can have a better wheel for the same price is quite hard to ignore. :ihatpcs:

If you're keeping totally standard then option 1.
Option 2 for oem+ - they look ad standard as you can get and feel great

I don't think there is any shame in replacing the original wheel as it was ungainly.

There is another option: which is rarely considered...

Upgrade the OEM to a leather ID OEM finish. This would avoid the melting issue.

Never seen one of those. Is it just the normal one trimmed in leather?

I forgot..if I get a clio 200 steering wheel i'll have to pay for the airbag too. Anyone know how much they are all in?

Some pics of I'd leather pack on here somewhere. sorry on iPhone so can't search

Clio 200 one is around 570 all in
Clio 197 wheel is about 300 ish all in

Renault parts direct have the 197 on their website which is the one you want.

I'm facing a similar issue at the moment too. I think the 197/200 is a better wheel, however, I also think it looks a little out of place in the vee. It's for this reason alone I think I'll be getting a leather re-trim, and/or a new oem wheel. Seats and exhaust is about my personal limit of oem+ :)

Shaun I'm in the same situation with my steering wheel, if you go the leather re-trim option I'd be keen to hear about your findings

Cheers,

No problem Phill (2 LL's) I already have a re-trim wheel on the 172, and I have to say its great! I just hope that the re-trimmer can get the thumb grips off and back on ok. :/

I deliberated over this for ages, then I looked at my non oem recaro pole positions and thought f@ck it... I can always return the car to standard if needed (the original parts are kept in the loft)

The transformation of the seats combined with the feel of the 197 steering wheel is phenomenal! :-)

+1

pole positions and 197 wheel is superb!

IMO quality, OEM+ modifications will not effect the re-sale of a Clio v6, yes some people will only buy a 100% original one and that's fair play to them, but many would see the likes of recaros, or even KW suspension as a bonus when buying..

One of the reasons I like quality modifications, and would steer clear of cheaper alternatives,

I think the 197 wheel looks great in the ph2 interior. However, it looks way out of place in the ph1 surrounding which I'm taking this thread is about? The only wheel I'd fit to a ph1 is a retrimmed Renauly Sport Race wheel.

I really wanna fit the Sabelt wheel again (won't even have to retrim it this time) but I have really grown to like the cruise control so 197 wheel (that will have to be re trimmed) is really the only option.... Isn't it?
