Spike. Fuel Pump

PeteH

New Member
Just like to a BIG thankyou to Spike for his valuable advice on a number of things this year and recommend his fuel pump upgrade.

Fitted yesterday and it most certainly improves the mid range, possibly the whole range :approve:
Had a nice long drive last night and I was like a kid with a new toy again! :race:
Renault RTE mechanic also drove her and agreed a great improvement over stock

I can share some of the info,
This all started way back, when i had fuel pump woes and was looking into the throttle bog/glitch problem. i removed the pump and tested it and found that it was not to the spec that it should have been, and i mean fuel pressure and delivery rate. so i set about a fix. on my quest i found that if i adjusted certain paramiters i got a boost in midrange power, i did mention this on the forum but no-one seemed to have any interest, i also made a tool for removing the pump easily, somewhere on the forum is my offer to lend this out.
So basically i can test your pump, repair with second hand pump, or new pump or even an uprated pump with a huge delivery rate. i can put the pressure to where it should be and genrally service the units filter that sits in the base and gets clogged.
Now all this was a couple of years ago and the price started at £100, i now have no parts left as peter has had the last so if anyone wants this doing i will have to look into getting some more bits in.
i can find the original fuel pumps at around £140 each but had better results with a second hand pump from another vehicle, but that is your choice, i will warrant the unit on a return to me basis for a year, and i am sure you all know by now you can trust me.
On a note of trust, this job for peter came about by him servicing my watch, that came from him buying an exhaust from me, and i am sure he will say as i do we both got a good job done.
I hope that makes things clear.

Thanks for that Spike. Curious as to why you had better results using a second hand pump rather than a new pump. I will PM you to take this further.

For any of you that have any ? over this fuel pump change, I can confirm that it does make a slight improvement on the mid-range. Second and partically third gear have a slightly greater pull.

I even think that it has enhanced the sound of the already highly aclaimed Spike exhaust. Prehaps more fuel pressure means more unburnt fuel..and noise? Those on the London meet would most definately have heard it :race:

PM Spike you won't regret it ;)
