Special Edition V6s that never were... Opinion.

As a Clio 172 Cup (from new, currently 123k miles) and Clio V6 (Illiad Phase 2, 50k miles) owner Ive often wondered if RS were ever tempted to do a spin off Special Edition V6, say a fully loaded ID model with Renault F1 badging or similar...

Im in the 'ive bought it so ill use it' owners camp and do like the odd discrete mod/upgrade too but only in the strict OEM+ fashion and only if reversible. Consequently im considering making my own V6 Cup... albeit in a half hearted way, and just to be a bit different and as a bit of fun :). Im open to opinion on what this imaginary Cup spec could have been, thinking about the approach to the 172 cup but aware the V6 was aimed at different market I think it could have been something like...

Exterior
Illiad Blue Paintwork
Carbon Effect Door Pillars with Unique Cup badging.
Matt Black (or gloss? Anthracite? Silver edged like RS Megane?) OZ 18'' Wheels
Side Pods colour coded to the wheels?

Interior
Sabelt Renault Sport steering wheel (retrimmed matching alcantara)
Fixed Lightway Bucket seats (matching alcantara) with Cup badge embroidery with Sabelt 4 Point Belts
Unique Cup decal on dash strip - numbered
Glovebox MP3 connectivity replacing CD autochanger

Mechanical
All round adjustable coilover suspension
Stainless rear exhaust box

In reality they may have downgraded xenons, removed aircon etc too, but i dont fancy that! :D

I personally doubt that a 'cup spec' would have ever been considered.
The Vee was conceived as a GT and the ID spec served only to make the interior more upmarket.

Losing some weight and improving the driving position is a no-brainer though...

But styling changes are always going to be subjective. 8)

If we're talking purely in Cup terms then all they would have done is put some even sh1tter seats in, deleted the aircon and fiddled with the suspension! So none of the above really!

Think your thinking more R26.r approach.

I guess the fully loaded i'd. v6s already exist, the lunar(s) with full blue leather interior for example.

I doubt they would have touched the suspension. They struggled enough as it was. I think you would have seen nothing more than lightweight buckets, a more vocal exhaust, thinner glass (maybe polycarb), carbon engine covers and an extra 20hp.

Has anyone done lexan/plexiglass side windows in a Vee?

Looks like my next project...

Were they off-the-shelf or custom?

They'll be the same as a normal clio so I'd say they are off the shelf or at least very easy to obtain. Only thing with polycarb is that its bloody awkward to look well finished on a road car where glass ones are usually bonded/glued in and you can't really use the electric/wind up windows.
