Sound Proofing!

Copland

New Member
My Vee has a QS exhaust fitted (unsure of type, anyway to tell) and sounds great when out for a play but have made a few long journeys already, London to Aberdeen being the first and the noise can get a bit much after a while.

I have about 5mX3m of heat/sound proof stuff in my garage from another job and was wondering is there anywhere I can put it to help reduce the boom?

I thought on the engine covers and maybe the lower bulk-head?

Any suggestions guys?

Hi,
As an accident investigator I have seen it all...Make sure you know what the base material is made of what chemicals are present to bind it together. Also assuming that you also want to breath and remain conscious while driving find out what the possible fugitive emissions and at what temperature these emissions may be created at.
You need something ideally that has a high thermal density with no volatile organic compounds with a flash point of not less than 600c.

Nigel.

Turns out I only have "COOL IT" Kevlar heat barrier, not sound proof.

Any recommendations on what to buy and where to fit?

earplugs !?.....

much cheaper, heat treated to human head temperature & far less likely to give of sufficient noxious fumes when burnt !

also adaptive as you can enjoy the sound of your exhaust when you want [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

I tried earplugs with my QS sport, but they were ineffective.
It went before I had a chance to try sound-proofing options.

I did Lancaster to Dover for the French trip with ear plugs in all the way when I had y quicksilver fitted.

Don't listen to him. I would always open the passenger window ever so slightly and it's amazing the difference it made. Loved my quicksilver.

The quicksilver paired with a Viper induction kit still puts a smile on my face, plus I hate the look of the standard pea shooters, but yes I can imagine London to Aberdeen being a bit tiresome.

Yet to see you!! Where's the pics??! Chop chop!

Am surprised, been driving it alot!

Got the front end off it the now to restore the headlights and give it a wee clean behind the bumper so don't have any photos.

Also waiting to get hold of a replacement fog-light bulb holder, thought I would fit yellow bulbs whilst it was off as I loved my williams with the yellow glass fogs fitted.

Pics to follow after I get a chance to buff the beastie up a bit.

I did notice it was better with the window (s) open but I want to tone the cabin noise down a bit more mate.

It has an induction kit fitted that does make me giggle but am thinkin of putting a standard air-box with a panel filter on.

Will be up for sale soon if anyone wants it (red ends with carbon cone, unsure of make).
