Slightly down

Just been speaking to Andy ( GDI ) you may have heard of them, a specialist tuning company based in Cambridge.

I asked if they tested the bhp of their cars before and after modifications are carried out.

He said both mine and Sluggers V6 were putting out just 240 bhp as standard. ( only slightly down ) Some put out a bit more apparently.

I would guess getting some V6's up to 300 bhp is rather more of a challenge.

I reckon no traction on the rollers doesn't help though. That's my excuse anyway ;)

255PS is actually not quite 255BHP, as 1PS is slightly less than 1BHP.

255PS actually equates to approx 251BHP.

never got one :( there were people sat on the back though and they used loads of sticky spray to try and give it some traction.

When mine was RRed it was running at 280 BHP!

Sadly it was only in a dream last night . The strange things that influence our dreams :-?.

Surely Power at the wheels is whats important.

My old Impreza had (calculated) 270BHP but only just over 180BHP measured at the wheels!!! A HUGE difference! Huge transmission losses.

My new Clio "only" has 250(ish)BHP but should be over 180BHP at the wheels! 8)

Peter :D

Just don't remind me about the turbo's mid range torque!

I agree Matt. I've seen figures assuming 20% or more transmission losses on 2wd.....!!

I think they were going on 20-25%

Don't quote me on that though lol

I've got a mk1 mr2 I do trackdays in and the transmission losses on those are huge, 125bhp at the flywheel and around 80 at the wheels.

You won't get an accurate flywheel figure without removing and putting the engine on a dynocell. The above figures I don't believe are accurate unless your clutch was shot. figures for flywheel derived from the wheels figure are purely calculation/guesswork. If you're saying MR2s have a book figure of 125@fly and yours measured 80@wheels then there is a problem with the car or the rollers I reckon.
I don't mean to get into arguments about who's car is more powerful then someone else's, I can get that on Cliosport.net, it's just that quoted figures for flywheels are often wishful thinking.

My mr2 hasn't been on the rollers as it's running fine and I'm not one for pub talk about power etc. The figures I quoted are generally well known amongst the mr2 community, the transmission really does seem to sap power.
