Hi
Should the side pod fans come on when I turn on the air conditioning? I have just had the system re-gassed so I am now using it and noticed that the fans are always running with the air con switched on..
Thanks for your help
Daz
Check the sensor on rear bulkhead, two wires go to it, close tho coolant bottle..
Had similar problem when the plastic casing had become brittle and cracked/broken. Cheap to replace RPD
I read in one of the old threads here that goes something like this:
When the coolant temp is above 90 deg C and engine bay temp is above 70 deg C, the side pod fans would kick in. The pod fans works regardless whether ignition is on.
Being in HK and particularly now in easy mid 30 deg C summers, it is easy for the side pod fans to come on after 20mins of slow start stop traffic and yes the pod fans comes on quicker when the air con is on. But coolant temps stay pretty much steady at halfway cos the low speed radiator fan is on as soon as the air con is engaged.
I belive side pods come in based on engine compartment temp, so when u r driving along they should not really come on as the air flow will be cooling the engine bay. They will often come in not long after u have parked up as the engine temp will rise. I don't belive they should come in when u put the air con on.
I have a question. Mine come on if it gets hot. I've heard them quite a few times in the last few weeks with all this hot weather. However when I turn the engine off, they stop with it.
Is that supposed to happen? Or should they stay on?

I'm the same as you Phil, but sometimes after turning the engine off mine might fire up after a couple of minutes. Presume this is due to the heat build up in engine bay after stopping and tripping them back on.
That makes sense Phil. It would be very useful if they stayed on. Last weekend I pulled up to a pub and the fans had just switched on. If they'd kept running after I turned the engine off, I probably wouldn't have been popular with the locals enjoying a quiet beer in the beer garden lol (as they are very noisy!)
