Road Tax - the 6 month window

Do V6 owners generally road tax them for a full year or 6 months (assuming its not your daily runner)? Mine is currently SORN'ed when the last road tax expired and when I next get the new tax sorted, I'm considering only going for 6 months.

Now would you go from April to August or May to September?

And this might be a dumb question - If purchase a full year of road tax and then SORN it after 9 months, can I get a refund on the unused 3 months?

With the fair weather we had this weekend, I'm itching to take the beast out!

I taxed mine for 12 months but it's been in at the garage for the past 6 months, might not as-well not have bothered. Might claim it back from the garage owner.

Refunds: Send a claim on Form V14 to DVLA for a refund of the unexpired portion on the disc

6 month tax includes a surcharge, which is non-refundable. Don't forget tax and insurance issues i.e both or none now.

Tax refunds are possible but take an age usually and you lose the month you return it in and get nothin if you return it in the month of expiry.

The way I see it, it doesn't cost that much extra to go for the whole 12 months so why not right? Having said that I guess you save £££ on not having to insure throughout?

I'm firmly in the 12 month camp and have had a few lovely drives lately, great fun plus it means the car gets a proper exercise.

Last year proved there is NO guarantee that you'll get nice dry weather over the summer :s

Cant help noticing your doing yourself out of a month there Danny!

Surely its March to August or April to September?

I did the 12 months thing first year and i only used it twice in the winter months, this time went for 6 months only and felt like i missed it loads. I will probably just do 6 months again, but very tempted to go full 12 and have the option.

Its a joke really that its done on emissions and not mileage!!!

Indeed, our Skoda costs £100 a year but we do over 10,000 miles in it. Vee is about £260 a year and we do about 2,000 miles. Stupid system is stupid.

I'm a very basic person but why they can't just wack a penny or two on the price of petrol and be done with VED is beyond me!

Only 6 months for me, bargain for the road tax whether 6 or 12

Sunday was a stunning day could have done with the V :( still salt on the road though

My tax ran out September last year and I think we've only had about 2 days where I would have been happy taking the Vee out since then, there's always puddles on the road or damp patches and my car sees neither,

I'll probably wait till April / may then stick 6 months on it, kind of dreading this year as Cambelt etc is due in August, think the current belt has done under 5k in 5 years [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

£260 is a bargain, my 350z was costing me over £500 a year on tax. Okay, so it was really £475 i think for 12 months, but as i did it at 6 months at a time, it worked out a lot more. Funny thing was, had the car been a few months older, it would only have been £260, as they changed the rules in 2006.
