Anyway…..
After fitting the Gtt subframe from Tony at prima, Williams torsion bars, rear disc brakes and a fresh jc5-129 with a quaife from northloopcup the car was handling amazing however. Because I still had standard seats I literally couldn’t drive the car fast due to me sliding about! I wanted something that looked cool was comfy and suited the sleeper style I was going for. I saw a that a local business were doing a sale in cobra seats and thought I’d have a nosey and I literally fell in love with the cobra classics with no headrests. Including the OMP subframes and sliders they cost £550. Whilst I was at it I thought I’d splash out on a OMP steering wheel and a PMS shifter just to tie it all in.
Once these were fitted I could actually feel how good this car actually was. The seats are absolutely amazing and everyone always comments about how awesome they look. I will get them retrimmed at some point just to so the front seats and rear bench match.. The car stayed in this form for about a year due to me buying the meglio, killing its engine… having a new forged engine built then mapped and also moving house.
After moving in I’ve spent abit of time graveling the front garden and put a deposit down to have a garage built on the back garden. Since having the 5 it’s always been inside a garage at my previous house and I hate leaving it outside even though it’s under a car port and a cover at the minute. Should hopefully have it built in June with any luck. My mate Dan bought the ktec jenvey kit for his mk1 clio 172 and I went down to EFI Parts with him to get it mapped…
Once I heard the ITB’s on full chat I knew…. 100% knew I had to have some and then a week later, a second hand set come up on cliosport forum for £1800. The kit included the direct to head itb’s, Ktec filter (which is garbage) Clio 197 injectors and the plug & play gen90 ecu which had a base map on it. I had a word with Dan about the loom as some of the pin outs need changing from the standard ecu to the gen90 and he said he had a spare Clio 172 cup loom for me that was already made up. This would be loads better for the Renault 5 as the ph1 Clio 172 loom I currently had was basically loads of terminated wires for stuff like abs, air con, T/C etc. I can honestly say sometimes, Dan is an absolute legend and said he’d fit it all whilst I was away with the new missus which I proper needed!!
Once I got back from my first holiday in 3years
I started to tidy up the engine bay. I saw on Instagram someone was selling scuttle tray covers. As I still had the original battery it wasnt going to fit so I purchased an odyssey pc680 and a battery tray. Redid the battery fuse box and replaced the ring terminals on the lives and earths.
The trumpets that came with the kit were 70mm and too long to fit any air filters so I had to ordered shorter trumpets (35mm) ITG filter and backing plate. The filter just squeezes in with just enough room to remove it.
Still got plenty todo before it goes to EFI Parts at the end of May. Paint the rocker cover, fit a PMS breather plate, oil catch tank, set the cams to Group N Timing and a new expansion bottle as mines gone brown
