I finally started rebuilding the engine bay and did a few other tidying up jobs.

First job was to hoover up all the leaves and other bits of foliage that had fallen into the scuttle over the last 9 months, this was because I wanted to relocate the battery across the other side of the scuttle, to give me room to mount reservoirs for the pedal box that'll be going in. The purpose of the pedal box is two-fold - to facilitate use of an indepent brake biasing system, and also to provide a hydraulic output for the clutch on the L7X as the existing clutch pedal setup is (as you all know) for a cable operated clutch.

I removed the battery and undertray and bracket and found that rust had started to get a hold, so on with some Kurust again (I love this stuff) and some primer, paint and lacquer later it was looking good as new!

Also did the other side for good measure, want the battery to have a clean new home :)

Trial fitted battery:

Back on the other side, I painted the undertray and bracket satin black, and gave the long bolt a go on the wire brusher and reassembled:

The satin black paint came out again and was in use for a fair while. I started by recoating the towing eye, front plate, alarm siren bracket, washer bottle cap, auxiliary fuseboard cover, headlight covers, bonnet strut, and I even did the long rubber trims that sit on the scuttle and slam panels.

Results are quite good and just add that extra subtle feel to the whole bay.

Auxiliary fuseboard, headlight screw-cap, and alarm bracket painted and fitted, alarm siren reattached to bracket:

Painted towing eye, front plate and horn reattached and reconnected (horn)

Bonnet strut and rubber trim refitted:

The pictures really don't do it justice, and I'm chuffed to bit, it looks almost factory fresh!

Also bought a pair of Recaro's to go in

STA60115.jpg

One's been fitted with a different headrest, but no biggie really!

Also started rebuilding my arches, to get the car rolling in preparation for going into the garage in Lincoln to have a subframe made!

Got the drivers' side built back up at last :D

Well first job was to remove surplus Waxoyl after giving it two days to wear in the arches. A nice bit of dry rag sorted got the inner arch and turrets gleaming:

Then I fitted my lovely black hubs, and my Gaz coilover:

Then on with the Billet 4-pot caliper:

And then the wheel:

Few more random piccies:

Caliper clearance - zilch!

STA60139.jpg

One possible issue - tyre valve fouls the caliper!

This is looking very good!! :approve: how long do you expect the whole project to take you?

Just one thing...those recaro's look like they have odd headrests?

Comin along nicely! Never been a huge fan of the 19...But i do appreciate the work thats gone into it...

Need to lose the TSW rims tho...Uber gash.

I can't wait to see the finished article, must be a first??

A set of Laguna alloys might look ok on there...

Only problem is the Lag wheels are 5 stud whereas I'm running 4-studs, but I agree, they do look bob on.

TSW's will be sticking around for a bit until I can find a replacement set of rims, I was wanting to use rims from within Renault to keep it as OE looking as possible but the only contenders at the minute are Speedline Turini's and the anthracite Ren rims as fitted to the 182 Clio, and the 17" 8-spokers from the Megane II... all of which go for big money at the minute... Turini's especially and they would have to be my favourite hehe!

I was planning on keeping the TSW's and having anthracite paint job, someone did me a Photoshop and I didn't think it looked three bad. They're not actually bad rims in the flesh, they're just not very photogenic.

Andy luvs v6's - The project has been ongoing for about the last 9 months.... it would have come on a lot sooner but I'll happily admit I'm quite lazy, but at the minute I've just got so many bits laying about that I'm having to crack on just so I can get em on the car sooner rather than later hehe!

Car is going in to have a subframe made up next two months or so after my other V6 comes back from it's £1K repair job (gearbox time :()

I do love the V6 Badge touch

are you still sticking to the engine plans?

I would appreciate some pics of the inlet manifolds and the ported and polished heads, are you doing them your self?

I am thinking of doing a set of heads on my v6 would be intesting to see what the power output is once done.

Also do you have any pictures of the Cam belt kit i asume you will be changing it b4 it goes in, renault charge £400 where as the 406 kit is £85

Sleeper in the making :D :D

Remove the v6 badges so everyone's wondering what the hell has just wupped there arse!!!

Yeah still sticking to the engine plans matey, only notable addition is the addition of the Clio V6 intake which I hope to come by from Steve on here. From the research I've done the intake is where the Clio's got their extra power from over the Peugeot equivalent lump.

Will be doing the cambelt yes, it needs a new auxiliary belt as well as I've stripped off the Sanden A/C unit as I don't need it but instead need a shorter non-A/C aux belt so gonna do it all at the same time.

As for the porting and polishing, the heads will be going off to my mate in Scotland who's a dab hand at doing it himself. He's well known on a few Renault forums and is known for his 'direct' manner but he knows how to use a Dremel! One of his best jobs was on a Clio RT engine, it was dyno'd before and after and after he'd worked the head it released 13bhp, and that was an old 8-valve head so hopefully he can release plenty on the two 12v heads!

I'm also looking into some custom made exhaust manifolds too, as the gains are far greater than I anticipated - a lad on the Vectra owners club forums (I have Vectra Supertouring V6 as a runaround) had some custom flowed exhaust manifolds fabricated and fitted, after the mani's were fitted he had it rolling roaded and it showed a whopping 35bhp increase. They cost him about £800 which imo is very good return for the money!
