red hot metal in the boot

stick my hand down in the boot and feel red hot metal... is this normal??

i mean when you open the boot lid, the stick your hand down between the boot carpet and bumper section, u can get it right down there and feel red hot metal... so not really keen on using the boot space, is this normal or is mine missing something? also the carpet kinda goes down there so gets pretty hot also.

one of the cats sits right under there as does some of the exhaust so its normally for it to get very hot. So hot in fact that another owner found out that if your doing a track day and you carry a pressurised can in there it can cause it to explode.

It does get very hot in there. Have witnessed aerosol cans exploding in there, with dramatic effects.. Twice now on other peoples cars, taking out fuses, boot lock, and throwing open the boot lid on one occasion. You have been warned. Do not keep pressurised canisters in the boot of a Clio v6. :ihatpcs:

The best solution to this problem is an exhaust that has a decat system, anyone know here to find such an item at a very reasonable price?
Oh, and one that sounds fab and looks great!

No your missing the point !

This was a specially created compartment - it's designed for keeping your takeaways warm!

I've used it many a time to keep my chicken tikka masala warm then I can take my time driving the longer drive home and have a blast in the vee :)

I agree! while a lot of new cars come with a refrigerated glove box for keeping your can of pop cool, Renault were way ahead of the times with a heated boot area. It's ideal for keeping Take-always warm, great for keeping that travel mug of tea warm on a cold afternoon. If you ever venture out on a trackday you can use it to cook your popcorn saving countless pennies on the usual burger van lunchtime offerings. ;)

No idea mate!! ;) If there is one I suspect it would be wise to name it after the bloke who put all the hard cash, time and work into it ;)

lol loving some of these replies...

Think I will refrain from keeping my gym kit (inc deodorant) in that compartment!!! could end badly... common sense i guess.

has anyone done anything about this? heat proofing underneath etc?

I've never noticed this on mine, next time I have it out im gonna investigate lol.

(And yes I'm aware that it needs driven in order to reach hot temperatures)
