Rear near side brake caliper binding.

Cold fusion

New Member
Hi,
When i had my Clio MOT'd on the 19th Feb the technician told me that the rear near side caliper was binding slightly.
Would it be cheaper to get an exchange caliper or buy a new seal kit and have a garage fit the kit?

Nigel.

Hi Nigel

The rear caliper is the same as a citreon ZM front

Lastest update on the rear brakes, after buying a set of 93 citreon XM front brakes, they are the same aprt from a bit of machining on the caliper mount, why its there who knows it's not a clearance problem.

Maybe its so Renault can charge 20 times as much for them.

So seal kits and spares are available on the web for these under the XM lists, I am almost sure the Citreon Xsara calipers are the same too but the caliper mount and pad holder are different as they take a smaller pad.

Pictures of said brakes one showing an angle grinder mod in the caliper holder. Red caliper is original clio V6

Big Red do seal kits and BRakeparts on-line do calipers and all the spare parts. brakeparts on line go for vin 5229 on

I had this a couple of years ago. It was the small metal pin jamming so caliper was locked on. Water had got into the seal and it had seized up. Got a replacement caliper second hand for 90quid.

Hi,
Steve mentioned that there is a need to gind one of the raised shoulders off the mounting bracket, If i use the old bracket i won't need to do that.

Nigel.
