Rear Lights

Hi all, this may be a question that has already been asked so please forgive me. What is the feeling about replacing the rear lights on a phase 1 with phase 2 lights? I have seen this on a few images on here and I think it makes the rear look a lot more modern and up to date. Do they just fit straight in or would you have to modify?
Also as far as the steering wheel is concerned on the phase 1, it looks like they have a flaking problem? Can anyone suggest a company to recover them back to standard?
Cheers
Trev :)

Phase 2 rear lights do freshen up the phase one rear and is a very popular change. It requires some minor and very basic rewiring to do it, otherwise a striaght swap.

Its a rare sight to see phase one lights on a phase one, and personally i think they look all the better for being original. Period features give the extra charm.

The flacking steering wheel is extremley common, some out there are totally mint still though!! :approve:
The wheel is the same as the ph1 172, replacement are quiet easy to find, but totally mint ones are not.

I think there are people on cliosport who do refurbs, although not sure if its to standard finish.

Keep an eye on eBay, the odd 'good' Phase 1 wheel does come up for sale - will usually be listed as from a 172 rather than a V6.

I've been thinking of getting a spare to re-trim to replace my standard wheel (to preserve it) so I'd be interested to hear how you get on. :)

Edge Automotive (I think) seem popular on ClioSport for re-trims, not sure if they can replicate the standard finish though.

I had ph2 lights on my ph1 when I bought it. I switched back to the originals and am much happier with the look. Less of a cluttered look in my opinion. Each to their own though and if you do want to fit later ph2 items, its a case of a simple rewire behind the bulbs.

It's very simple to do as I managed it and I have a hand of thumbs. I even managed to remember how to solder from way back when as I was met with a missing connector on my right rear light!!

There's a 'how to' guide in the knowledge section so maybe have a butchers.

The lights are interchangeable and at the mo I prefer the ph2 lights. Should I want to revert to ph1 lights it's only a resolder away. Get a set of each and then its the best of both worlds really. :)

Oh and I'd throw the crappy bus wheel away and get a decent Sabelt wheel. Completly transforms the feel of the car and you do away with summer time melting! No air bag of course but I just try not to crash.

I personally think Phase 2 rear lights and alloys on a Phase 1 really enhance how they look.

There's a guy on Cliosport who will do an awesome retrim for about £120 in your choice of leather / stitching. He'll send you one of his wheels then you send your old one after it's been fitted.

PM if you want his details.

I love ph2 lights and glad we swapped them over on our old ph1.

The steering wheels are a very common problem and as Mr Ed said the guy who retrimmed ours did a brilliant job. Highly recommended :)

Great advice guys thank you very much, I will pm you for that number as soon as I've sorted a few things out Ed

Im in the throws of sorting something out. I think the phase 1 is fantastic value for money right now so I've come away from the initial phase 2 thoughts and have honed a search around a ph1. Just wanted to check a few things out with the knowledgable guys on here though first hence the questions on the lights and wheel. There will probably be more to come lol
