Rear Camber Bolts / Wheel Alignment

I have just been to Demon Tweeks to have 4 wheel alignment completed again as i have been seeing some uneven tyre wear recently.....Anyway they made some adjustments to the Casters, Toes and Front Camber.

The Rear Camber on the passenger side is off however the technician advised he was unable to alter it due to having fixed Camber bolts which are not adjustable. I had a quick chat with the sales team who were unable to locate a supplier for adjustable camber bolts......Would there be a reason why the bolts are fixed and not adjustable? Would there be any implications of having them adjustable?

Absolutely bunkum ... rear camber absolutely is adjustable on a stock car without any additional parts and the bolts to do so are reasonably accessible via an extension bar on an air hammer from the back of the car even!

It's all clearly shown for both front and rear along with values in the Mk 2 workshop manual in section 30. 30A-7 and 30A-8 show that camber is adjusted by using the "B" bolts for both front and rear. Looking at Mk 1 manual, which doesn't say it can be adjusted, the basic suspension appears the same with identical "B" bolts with identical torque settings, so if it's not adjustable there is clearly some additional subtlety at play!

I had my rear camber done just a few months back, and the real challenge was adjusting the camber with the weight of the car down. The suspension bay had sliding plates under the front wheels that meant that the bottom of the wheels could be moved to alter camber. However, since most cars don't have adjustable rear camber, there were no similar sliding plates for the rear. Net of this was that we had to basically jack the car up, adjust the camber a bit and retighten, let the car down, and then remeasure which took a while to get right!
