We're entering in a 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini owned by an old friend, I've worked on the car over the years and know it quite well, our chosen charity helps youngsters into the motor trade apparently, I'm no expert on all the ins and outs.....have a look if it interests you, keep your eyes peeled for an old Renault heading from Nottinghamshire to Scotland via Durham.............you won't miss it as it's being wrapped green in Gemini's ( Accident Repair company ) colour scheme.

Car back from wrapping in Gemini green ( car is metallic blue, but all Geminis entries get painted green) it's the oldest car taking part.......no pressure then.

Set off Tuesday morning, quick stop off at Gemini Rotherham for some final tweaks, just like my garage......



Weather was shite, thank god we had access to above workshop



Really amusing when wipers packed up on route to Rally start ...........about 20 miles in at Hemsworth, we were going on minor roads to give the car chance to bed in after a couple of years dormant, constant use melted the old grease in the wiper gearbox and it contaminated the motor, a bit of fiddling got us back on track.
Up towards York via Ponty , round ring road and up A19 to Middlesbrough include a trip over transporter bridge ..........just coz .
Forget actual route to Durham, John is a font of useless info on old roads 'n' shizzle so I just enjoyed going somewhere of the beaten track, take my hat off to N. east, Cumbria, Northumberland and the borders though.......some awesome routes during our trip.
Made it to Durham, parked next to Gemini Owners little runabout.........



V12 on carbs sounded......well you can imagine.
Starting on car had been a little hit and miss, at one stage I had to give it a push off transporter bridge in Middlesbrough , but it threw all it's toys out and went into slug slug mode and wouldn't spin over when I tried to move it, just as we planned to go into adjoining restaurant ........so I took it to bits, whilst everyone else started drinking...



Solenoid was loose-ish but after taking genny off to get starter clear, and checking it all over , no different, I had no test meter so was in the dark, but we had a borrowed jumper pack and the car spun perfect with that direct on to starter, Hmmmm, duff live from battery at front to rear???
" Where's the earth to block , John?......"
" What earth?"
Drag someone out of bar and a dash to nearest Halfrauds got me a nice new earth strap from bumper bracket straight to the block.....bosh, sorted.
Car has never started so well...........
Drama over, lubricated with free beer I was fixed in an hour or two.
I ain't gonna tell full day by day account , but it was a great trip, up to Edinburgh via Kielder, night in Edinburgh, loads of free snap, beer, using cars as they should be, most were older shitters prep'd by apprentices, you need to read up on the Real Rally to know all the ins and outs, but it was certainly a laugh, here's a few pics and I'll leave it at that, raised about 500 at last count and made it back on Friday afternoon without further drama nearly 700 miles later.





Stored car overnight in Edinburgh Thursday night, and spotted a few Renaultsports in a nearby unit, couldn't resist taking Dauphine round and having a quick gas and taking a few pics, loads of great cars, Willy, turbo 182, wide 5, V6 clio....great lads at Rentec.

Sounds pretty fun, kinda, but i'm not sure i'm old enough to do a legal rally that obeys road rules yet
