Re: Renault 11 Turbo Rear Brakes

Rear brakes been not working as they should on the phase 1 so have taken the brake drum off. They appear to be Bendix with cylinder that has 2 pistons on. How many variations of rear brakes is there? Need to order 2 new cylinders, set of shoes & also 2 new wheel bearings.

If they are original shoes or OE supplied there should be a makers name on the shoes which will be either Benix or Girling.
If there is no visiable make on the shoes post a picture of the shoes & adjuster and I will tell you what make you have.

Ok ta fella, says Bendix on shoes, will post a picture up. I have got a new set of shoes that are wrong as differ to whats fitted to the car. ☺

Definitly Bendix shoes.
If you want me to, I can give you the Renault part numbers that you require. To that I would need all the numbers off the oval plate situated on the RH inner wing.

Ok thanks mate, just wondering if the silver bits on either side behind the gold bit of the shoes, is in fact part of the shoes or a bracket on the backplate?

Have had a look at ebay for replacement shoes, cylinders, and wheel bearings.

That's part of the shoe mate and will come with the new shoes. Its part of the handbrake lever system.

.....but the springs won't you'll need to order new if you want new. And don't take the old ones apart till you have the new ones ready to reassemble.

Dave, there are two type of Bendix shoes, early & late.
The early type the arms is separate from the shoes & have the adjuster on the arms, the later type have the adjuster on the centre bar with one arm part of the trailing shoe.

Ok chaps thankyou for the advice. So mine appears to have the silver bits on each shoe, just trying to find some on ebay that look like that or anywhere else that may sell them. Am looking to buy a new fitting kit aswell with the springs, clips etc so they can all be replaced in one go.

My particular 11 turbo is a phase 1, made in 1986, and registered in Nov 1986, so would this be the early or late type Bendix brakes?
