Re: 4 wheel gearbox

Dave Applebey had one built and backed away from the project over issues with the diffs - not sure quite what but I would expect Steve at SWR to remember the box - must be 15 - 20 k including mods - nice and good value against the other manufactures who quoted me as much as £50k for a minimum of 3!

You also need to look at 4wd transmission loses vs maximum torque capacity of the Sadev boxes - I'm sure they understate maximum torque capacity but its surprisingly light bearing in mind boosted torque figures from the V6

If your running 350bhp NA then your probably running only about 280lbft which is low enough for the standard Sadev box and won't warrant 4wd investment as the drivetrain will eat horsepower and it'll just add weight (unless you're rallying and need the grip). It's the torque from blowing that causes the concern.

Things to bear in mind at the moment are that Renaultsport/Huger have run out of trophy flywheels which you need for the Sadev install with the Tilton clutch and trophy slave cylinder.

There are a lot of "bits" required to get the box in - about £2k's worth including the shifter and driveshafts.

i reckon the car would be too short for any benefit from 4wd and in support of the comments above ... Interesting project and idea thought :) how about increasing steering lock and an lsd as practical improvements to handling and control maximising your increase in engine power :) these projects could be really engaging ... martin

I have wondered about fitting a 197 enging under the bonnet. Maching the gear ratios. Much more to do than that though im sure.

On the rally car they've shoved the front axle further forward and improved the lock too.
Makes quite a difference apparently and it's not so tail-happy.........can drift it now... [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
