Wanted R5 GTT Raider Project

Brennan

New Member
Hi All. I am looking for a hobby if you like and as I already have a R5 Raider I am looking to restore one.
I want a raider to restore so I can purchase new parts for the one I have and put my old parts on the new project raider.
Price is dependant on the condition of what you are selling. This is a project so I do not want to re mortgage my house for one.
Please let me know what you got and price asking and I will get back to you.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Brennan.
You will be lucky to find anything cheaper than that. Unless it's a lot further gone.
There is another on eBay from Ireland.
That's almost 10k and full of rust underneath.
I'll keep an eye out....:ay:

Yes I saw the pretend 45K mile one on ebay. lol
I saw one on ebay go for 960 but it was way gone. Volvo engine in it and I don't think an original plastic or interior trim, no log book etc but for 960 I thought maybe a good long project. . . .

What's the story with the Irish eBay car? How do you know it's full of rust?

I have gone to check the mot history on it but it's only coming back with the last mot - no previous mot details, trying to find the mileage on the chassis as I presume the chassis is on way more than 45k?

Hi, Just to be sure. This is the car i was talking about......
RENAULT 5 GT TURBO RAIDER / Alain Oreille | eBay

Me and a pal hired a transporter and drove to Ireland around March this year to collect this car. The guy sent me viedo's, and loads of pictures. Described as concorse. 100% rust free, you wont find a better example.
His best friend was a Renault mechanic and the car run like a dream.
HOWEVER.... When we got there it was quite a different story. Under the bonnet was gummed up to the eyeballs in filler, the side cills were rotten and the floor pan in the boot was held together by sound deading pads. My mate even put his finger through a rust hole in the rear inner arch.
I took it for a drive, (after he managed to get it started, approx 10 mins pissing about). Needless to say that only added insult to injury...
Very strange that, bearing in mind the whole "best friend was a Renault mechanic and the car run like a dream" story!!!!
It was up for 7k back then, he said he would let me have it for 5500.
Imagine my surprise when it pops back up for the best part of 10k.
Still, the great thing about eBay is you can look through his history and see what his brought for the car!

Dont get me wrong, he was a nice enough guy. And yes the car is 25 years old. But its was a fffffing long way to go for a story...

Brilliant feedback mate, I really fancied it but not know. What mileage is the chassis on then?

I've no clue, and I don't think he knows too much too much about it either.
1 thing is for sure, unless he lives in a beach hut. It ain't no 45k!!!
:ac:

:offtopic.gif: I know.... sorry Brennan.
I'll be keeping an eye out in any case!!!

Hi Barry.
That's the one on eBay I saw for sale with the Volvo engine, no v5 and the rest. Do you know anything about it or have you just come across it by chance?

Ones that tend to be beyond repair have matching tatty plastics and trims etc and not many decent bits that are actually worth anything. The only bits worth top whack come for equally good cars, and there's always someone that will buy them.

You have to understand though they are doing the for a business. It makes financial sense to make more cash breaking it that keeping it as one.

I agree on all fronts. Don't like to see any R5 broke when it's decent, but at the same time kids have got to eat and this is his business to make ends meet.
