R19 Single->Twin Beam Conversion

Here goes, I have single beams on my current car although I want to put a set of 16v twin beam head lamps in there, I do also have the headlamp wiring loom from the 16v however to transfer that across firstly is it plug and play and secondly is there a method to doing this instead of transferring the whole wiring loom as its a fairly time consuming job, has anyone done this before without using the twin beam loom?

if you want to do the whole loom then its an arse. Both side repeaters, brake pad warning cables, screen washers, horn etc etc.

yep a ph2, the whole loom did seem like a pain, i noticed the horns were attached to it and side repeaters too although the screen washer and brake pad warning werent on the loom i got out of the 16v, would this have been some botchery by someone else?

also the colours on the 16v wiring are much different to that on the 8v car, do you know which colours go where or just figure it out as i go chris?

figure it out, you can tell by looking at them.

thats the plan then, were all the looms in the ph2 16vs the same over the years?

I would leave the original loom on the car and run the 16v loom along side it.much handier than trying to strip everything out.ya can always convert back to standard lamps without too much hassle if you need to

very true yeah, ive kinda put it on the long finger now, head came off the car today, there was coolant travelling from the head, looks like it may just have been a dodgy gasket

or cut the 5 wires and splice, takes ten minutes!

I'd suggest just making and plugging an adapter harness to the original to avoid any butchery.
That's what i'm doing to my ph1 E6J with 16v twinbeams. It's really simple to make especially when you have the bulb connectors.
Just 4 extendwires for the repeaters and 2 "light booster" relay kits with power straight from battery and control "signal" from original harness.
This will make the lights even brighter because of straight battery voltage (no loss on original thin wires) to give the twinbeams maximum power.
